Question: Can someone help me with how to deal with leukemia!?
im a senior in highschool and ive been sick on and off since the end of the 7th grade!. last year i was extremly ill i missed the whole year of school and almost died from pnemonia and other complications which required major surgery!. ive been better since last year but i still spend a lot of time in the hospital!.

in the beginning of highschool my close friends were great!. i had an amazing support system which made everything easier!. now in my senior year im in the hospital alone all the time my friends never come or call me or talk about it with me!. i think they feel uncomfortable!. right now im alone in the hospital ive been here for days and i need my friends to help me with this but there not pulling through for me!. when im healthy they love me and we have a great time just not when i need them mostWww@Answer-Health@Com

I know how you feel!. I am in remission from the apl form of aml!. I thought my friends would be right with me and call me even though I was 300 miles away!. It seems as if your friends don't know what to say to you or how to talk to you about the leukemia!.Why don't you reach out to them and tell them about the disease!. I did not know anything about it when I found out about it!. Can you make new friends with patients there where you are!? I found out that other leukemia patients make great friends!. The nurses I had at Vanderbilt turned out to be great friends!. When I go back for my bone marrow in August they are throwing me a party because it will be a year in remission!. Also if they are not there for you now they may not be the friends you thought they were!. Can you talk with a pastor in your town to talk to your friends and see where they stand!. Or a Counselor!. I wish you a lot of luck and get in touch with me about this!. I will be praying for you!. Miracles still happen!. Also what type of leukemia do you have/ I love you even though I don't know you!. maybe u shud let them know that u wud appreciate them calling!. maybe they dont want to bother u or will feel uncomfortable with u hooked up to machines!. in the meantime listen to "a little bit longer" by jonas brothers on youtube!. i guarantee it will make u better since that song was written about a sickness(diabetes) nick is trying to overcome!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Although I am healthy but I see how much you need your friends and I feel for you that they can't be with you when you need them most!. I'll pray for you and I could be your friend too and my praying heart is with you although we don't actually know each other!. Honey I feel so badly for you!. They probably do feel uncomfortable and afraid they'll say the wrong thing!. That's the way alot of people think!. Could you tell them!? What type of leukemia does he have!? Some chronic leukemias have little effect on life expectancy for many of those who have it!.

Regardless, one resource which I highly recommend is ACOR, the Association of Cancer resources Online!. It maintains lists for virtually every type of cancer there is, and will put him in touch with hundreds if not thousands of people in a similar situation!.

People staying away is not just a young person thing!.

I had a real surprise when I was quite sick and asked a friend to do an errand for me!. She thanked me!.

Now I notice, looking around, that people who really are in need do not ask!. Try calling friends with an aim in mind, such as:"Can you come in over the weekend and get!.!.!.fix!.!.!.change!.!.bring!.!.!.!?

Hospitals scare people who are well!. Pick up your phone and call and invite your friends over to visit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your friends are probably unsure about visiting you because they don't know where their friendship with you stands!. They may think that you prefer to be alone in the hospital or they may even think that you're not allowed to have visitors!.

You could start by inviting your friends over to the hospital for a visit and suggest you guys play a board game like Monopoly!.!.!.something to break the ice!. During the game you could casually mention how much you miss their support and hope that your friendship can continue as before!. That should open up some dialog for your friends to open up to you!. If you have access to a computer, gather some information on leukemia and give it to your friends!. They may feel helpless because they can't do anything to help you!. Suggest to them that the best thing that they can do is to donate blood to the Red Cross during one of their blood drives!.
