Answers:
Go back on the 3rd day to have it read!. These should be read between 48 and 72 hours!. Redness is NOT an indication of a positive reading!. Only the size of the induration counts along with your age and health status!. An induration of 4mm or more is considered positive in those who have had a recent known exposure to active TB!. An induration of 10mm or greater is considered postive in very young children and certain high-risk groups!. An induration of 15mm and greater is considered a positive reaction in anyone!. I can't see the swelling on your arm but it's not uncommon to have a sensitivity reaction to the protein derivative and this will be taken into account!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

On the mid forearm area in the skin an intradermal injection is given to test for TB and some times certain other tests along with it are done in specialized situations!.

The area of injection for convenience and certainty can be marked with skin marker and observed preferably at 24, 48 and 72 hours, An induration raised red skin area with or without surrounding small little raised islands depending on the strength of the injection are noted, anything 7 TO 10 mm and over/greater in size is considered positive especially if the person has a negative ppd before and or no TB vaccination (BCG) has been given!. Rarely delayed induration can occure in which event rhe patient should report to the doctor as soon as possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Swollen & pink may just be a 'normal' hypersensitive reaction to the PPD!. To truly be PPD Positive, you need actual induration (hardening) beneath the skin and it must be measured!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is read after two days- if the injection site is a big red dot then you may need further testing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
