My nephew (who is 7) had a very similar medical history up until the last year!.He had been taking prednisone and breathing treatments just about all of his life!.The prednisone had stunted his growth so bad he looked like a little munchkin!.He recently got very ill and had to be taken to a much larger medical facility!.There, a pediatric pulmonologist discovered that he had reflux and that was aggravating his asthma!.He treated him for the reflux and he hasn't taken prednisone since!.He uses his controller inhaler(Advair) and rarely has to take a breathing treatment!.
Several studies suggest a significant link between GERD and asthma!. The results of these studies show that up to 60% of people with asthma also have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), compared with 10% of the general population!.
GERD may worsen asthma symptoms, however, asthma and some asthma medications may worsen GERD symptoms!. On the other hand, treating GERD often helps to also relieve asthma symptoms, further suggesting a relationship between the two conditions!.
If this has not been discussed with your physician,I would ask him!.Best of wishes with the SSA(^_^)Www@Answer-Health@Com

You will be denied the first time!. That's just the way they are!. Even those who are obviously disabled get denied the first time around!. As for the asthma, I've never heard that!. My oldest daughter has asthma bad!. She was born with it!. Uses a nebulizer at home, in and out of the hospital all the time and I don't think they consider her disabled!. She has never applied for disability before, only because she doesn't think they consider her disabled! Four years ago I was diagnosed with emphysema and my doctor says I'm not disabled, so I don't imagine that my daughter is!. Good luck to you though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No they won't tell you over the phone and 90% of ppl get denied the first time around!. But do apply again if you get denied!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a daughter who will be 8 years old this summer and she was diagnosed with asthma at 2months old!. She had it severely as well, was hospitalized several times, nebulizer treatments everyday, steroids, the whole nine yards!. I actually got fired from my job for missing so much time because of how sick she always was!. So, I also applied for disability for her right before her first birthday!. Her pediatrician had me convinced that I would be approved especially because I had been fired from my job!. Unfortunately we were not!. They sent me a letter saying something like the illness was not fatal or does not cause blindness! I can't remember the other reason it sais but it was all RIDICULOUS!! Afterward though her doctor and a couple ther people I know sais that most people do get denied the first time around and you have to appeal the decision!. Some people sais that they had to do this a FEW times to get approved!. It is alot of work, but if you are determined enough and don't give up the first time like I did you may get it!. And alot of work or not, it would be worth it in the end because once you are approved, they pay you starting from the date that you applied!. And for some people it takes a year or more so they get apretty large check once approved!. If you believe your son deserves it, fight for it!!! Good luck!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

the social security office is not allowed to give you a yes or no over the phone!. What I was told when I applied and called was they don't give the answer out because of people freaking out if they get denied!. They like to scream at he messanger when they have no control over the fact you were approved or denied!.

As for being denied first time around its not guaranteed you will be denied first time around!. I was accepted in round 1 and to the first person who answered above!.

If the severity of the childs condition warrants financial assistance No matter what the condition The child is eligible for social security disability!. My mother was able to get disability for my brother and I when we were children!.

Good luck I hope they accept you the first time around!. If not!. Re apply!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your son!? How old is he!. I can't imagine a child getting disability!. I know a lot of people who live with asthma, they do just fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
