Answers:
Your lungs (you have two, right and left) have several lobes (right one has three, left one has two lobes)!. It is just named that way because the main airways divide into smaller airways leading into these lobes!.
The lobes work virtually independently from each other as they have their own nerve, lymphatic and blood supply!. Pathology (illness, disease) may be limited to one lobe, so the other lobes are not or minimally affected!. You can then resect (remove, take out) one lobe only, without having to take out a whole lung (one side of both lungs)!. Taking out a lobe improves breathing as opposed to taking out a whole lung!.
The resection needs to show margins (edges) free of tumor to indicate (show) that the whole tumor has been removed and no tumor cells have been left (to grow again)!.
Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The lobes are the divisions of your lungs!. Your right lung has three lobes and your left lung has two lobes!. The lobes represent anatomic units of the lung (meaning that the left upper and left lower lobes, though anatomically similar, function independently of one another)!. I have never heard of the term "sleeve" resection in regards to pulmonary surgery!. A wedge resection is a nonanatomic resection of a problem area in one of the lungs (i!.e!., you are removing something from one of the lungs to make sure it is not cancer)!. A blebectomy removes the top (usually) of the upper lobe in hopes of preventing recurrence of spontaneous pneumothoraces!. A lobectomy removes a lung lobe that contains cancer, and a pneumonectomy removes an entire lung that contains cancer!. Hope that helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
