16 years old, too young and skinny for carpal tunnel syndrome?!

Question: 16 years old, too young and skinny for carpal tunnel syndrome!?
I've had wrist pain for years, but with in the past 6 months, new types of wrist and hand pain have formed, and it's interfering with my school work!. I have all the symptoms of CTS!. A few months ago, my hand started feeling numb constantly for a couple of weeks!. The numbness has gone away (for the most part) but now I have frequent pain up the middle of my wrist, hand, middle and pointer finger!. I've done hours of research, and I have all the symptoms of CTS!. I spend around 10 hours on the computer a day!. 9 months ago, I probably spent around 12 hours a day on the computer, for 6 months (I had broken my leg and couldn't walk!.) Even before I had broken my leg, I had constant wrist pain!. It wasn't carpal tunnel, but probably another nerve problem in my wrist, that I still have to deal with!. Even if I'm not on the computer, and am just relaxing, my hands and wrists hurt randomly!.
So today, I went to the doctors, and she told me, "You are too young and skinny to have CTS!."Www@Answer-Health@Com

If I were you, I would seek a second opinion from a hand specialist!. I don't think your doctor did enough to even diagnose a hangnail!

I have no idea if folks as young as you get CT, but I have several skinny friends who suffer from it!. What I have always heard is that CT is caused by certain repeated motions -- like typing -- over a long period of time!. Since you are still maturing, you might be more susceptable to damage!. And it sounds like you've done a LOT of typing in the past few years!.

Your pain could be caused by something other than CT!. I have had arthritis in the joints at the base of my thumbs (and nowhere else) since my early 20's!. Glucosamine & Chondroitin tablets help, plus occasional aspirin on bad days!.

Anyway, you need to have your problem evaluated by a specialist!. By getting the right diagnosis and treatment, you might head off more serious problems in the future!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Carpal tunnel syndrome is swelling in the carpal tunnel!. I don't think it has to do with age!. I guess I could be wrong!. If I were you though I would see a massage therapist trained in injury (sports) massage!. They are trained to deal with many types of injury, including injury in the wrists!. They might be able to help you!. I hope that helps and good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
