You are a Kewl and brave kid!. Good job getting your dad to the doctor!. Make sure he goes and tells the doctor exactly what happened!. The previous answer is probably correct!. Angina (Chest pain associated with the heart/arteries) is a warning sign!. It indicates that the heart is starving for oxygen!. This happens when the arteries to the heart get clogged with plaque (cholesterol) and oxygenated blood can't reach the heart muscle!. This clogging is called Coronary Artery Disease!. If the blockage is severe, or lasts too long, part of the heart muscle may die!. This would reduce the hearts ability to move the blood through the body!. The truth is that you never feel angina or other symptoms until there is atleast a 70% blockage!.

The good news is that the condition is very treatable!. Medications, placement of stents or Bypass Surgery may be required!. But which ever treatment is needed your dad will be better than before the treatment!.

I speak from experience!. I had 5 bypasses done in October 2006!. I was just 17 days pastt my 47th b-day!. I'm fine now!.

Help your dad help himself!. If he smokes or drinks, encourage him to stop!. Watch what he eats, foods high in fat, cholesterol and sodium (salt) are very bad foranyone but especially someone with coronary artery disease!. Get him out and physically active!. A daily walk for 20-30 minutes per day is a great start!. Any activity that increases the heart rate for 20-30 minutes each day will have a great impact on his heart effeciency and bood pressure!. Although, a doctor should approve any exercise program before he begins, that is very important!.

Well, good luck!. I hope your dad is ok, and hangs around to pester you for a long time!.

It sounds like angina to me!. This is when the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen!. it is normally because of coronary artery disease, which causes the narrowing of the arteries that supply the heart!.

A heart attack is where NO oxygen gets to the heart muscle and the heart muscle begins to die!. The arteries supplying the heart are completely blocked off!.

Angina is the step before a heart attack, but it can be managed!. Going to see the doctor is a very good idea and your dad will probably recieve some trreatment and will be put on some medications!. This will help his heart stay strong and he should be fine for a long time yet!.

In the mean time encourage him to eat healthy and to stay away from fatty foods, red meats and salt!.

hope this helps
