I went to the ER and was put on Bactrim(antibiotic)for 7 days. Do I need to have!

Question: I went to the ER and was put on Bactrim(antibiotic)for 7 days!. Do I need to have a check up!?
Im still a little worried because I still have a hard area below the skin that wont go away!. I've been on antibiotics now for 3 day!. It also has a warm red area surrounding the boil, that formed after the ER punctured it and drained it!. Its still draining and there is little hole now where its draining!. Is this normal!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The draining is normal, and that's a good sign!. It looks like the antibiotics are doing their job!. Give the antibiotics a few more days to work unless the boil starts growing or getting worse!. Even though things look good at this point, a 7-day course of antibiotics is the minimum amount, and you may need an additional week!. It would be a good idea to schedule an appointment right now for the day after the antibiotics run out, and cancel it if the boil heals by then!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Maybe I'm being overly cautious -- but, if it were me, I would go see my doctor!. To begin with, Bactrim is not a particularly strong antibiotic -- and my personal experience is that, when I have taken it (like for sinus infections or urinary tract infections), it is customarily prescribed for 14 days!. Plus, I have had occasions when I would take Bactrim for the full 14 days and then, 2-3 days later, I could tell that the infection was returning !.!.!. had never been completely eliminated, in other words !.!.!. and I would go back to the doctor and he would give me a stronger antibiotic!. So, assuming that you have taken the entire prescription, it sounds to me like it didn't totally get rid of your infection!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Normally a follow up with your regular doctor is appropriate when you go to an ER!. If you finished the 7 day course of antibiotic and it is still bothersome, I definetley would get a follow up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have staph infection and it may need drained again, yes go to your primary care doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
