How come pizza plays ping pong with blood sugar?!

Question: How come pizza plays ping pong with blood sugar!?
I thought it was just us but another mom said the same thing happens to her!. Exactly 5 hours after eating a slice of pizza, Gina's sugar soars!. What's so unusual about pizza!? The sauce is low in carb, the cheese is free, the bread -- well, it's bread!. If bread caused it, wouldn't sandwiches and all other bread intake make her bounce!? What's in pizza that does this!? It's becoming one of those foods that just isn't worth it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It's simple, pizza is high in fat and fat slows the absorption of everything!. The ratio of fat/carb is high!. That's why we are told not to eat food that has fat in it for a low!. It slows down the sugar getting into the blood!. And to eat something after a low with fat to keep the glucose going in for a longer time after the low!. Pizza does the same thing to me!. I have a paradigm minimed pump and use the dual wave bolus for pizza!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am a Type 1 diabetic (6 years!?) and have had the same thing happen to me!.

Here is my understanding!. The high fat content causes the whole meal to be digested slowly!. So, you don't see the full effect from the carbs until later!.

Compare this to the Chronic Somogyi rebound (see references), but the low is caused not by being over medicated, but because the food is digested more slowly the medicine acted too soon!.

If I were to try to give myself the correct amount of insulin for the pizza when I ate it, it would cause a low then a high!. It causes a low, because the insulin starts to work before the pizza starts to raise my blood sugar (because of the fat delaying the process)!. Then, once you've hit a low your body responds by attempting to raise your blood sugar!. It does this by increasing your insulin resistance by releasing hormones as well as releasing sugar it has stored!.

So, the solution for me is to delay when I take my insulin either by waiting or by using an advanced feature on a pump such as a combo bolus!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The dough is really greasy, and fatty foods cause the carb to be absorbed more slowly!. Pasta and Italian food, Chinese food, and rich breads and cakes have the same effect!. Are you on a pump!? When I eat pizza I set mine to give me a dual wave bolus to give me 70% of the insulin now and the remaining 30% over the next 4 hours!. It took some trial and error to come up with that formula, but it works quite well for me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are too many carbs in the pizza crust!. It will cause blood sugar to rise!. White bread and white flour have lots of carbs!. I can't eat any of it!. Neither can my daughter who is type 1!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hmmmm idk but i only have a problem with it if i dont run or go to the gym!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
