Herpes.....??? Please Help!!?!

Question: Herpes!.!.!.!.!.!?!?!? Please Help!!!?
I just found out I have HSV 2!. I have had HSV 1 since I was 10!. Never had a genital outbreak, only on my mouth!. I was first sexually active at 16 with one person for a short period of time!. Then I met my wife and have only been with her since(16 years)!. I only got tested because she had a genital outbreak and tested positive for HSV 2!. I have never had a genital outbreak before!. Is it possible that I could have gotten HSV 2 from my first partner and never have a genital outbreak!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
There are two possibilities here, if both you and your wife have only just shown symptoms!.

1) is that you have had the virus for years and caught it from your first partner - and have only just shown sympotms!. Up to 80% of people with herpes do not know they have it and 20% have no symptoms at all!.

2) Is that your wife has either been carrying the virus herself for the length of your marriage and has only just shown symptoms, OR that she has been unfaithful to you during your marriage and caught the virus!.

Have you both had blood tests!?

If you have both tested positive by blood test, it means you have both been carrying the virus for more than 3 months (it takes about 3 months to get a positive result)

If she tests positive, then she has had the virus for a while too!.

If you test positive and she tests negative, then it is likely that you have had the virus for a long time and have just passed it on to her!. Testing is not infallible, but should give you a better idea!.

Having oral hsv-1 is not connected to an hsv-2 infection - they are different viruses!. But doctors believe that having oral hsv-1 like you makes you much mre likely to have a mild or asymptomatic genital hsv-2 infection!.

If you have both tested positive, and you both have it, there is not much point in worrying now!. Neither of you can catch the virus a second time off the other, so you might as well not worry about it at all!. Both I and my long-term boyfriend have hsv-1 - he had it on his mouth from being a child and infected me 7 years into our relationship!. We don't have to worry about passing it so we have unprotected sex and don't worry just like any other couple!.

As a note to a previous answerer: type 1 does not turn into type 2!. They are two separate viruses!. If you have oral hsv-1 you can infect your partner's genitals but they would then have genital hsv-1 as I have, and NOT genital hsv-2!. Tracie N, PLEASE educate yourself and stop spreading false information!. You are obviously clueless!. My partner had oral hsv-1, and gave me oral sex and I got genital hsv-1 - not hsv-2! One does not morph into the other, and the number refers to the virus itself and NOT the location!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes it is possible!. The virus can lay dormant in your system for years and some people never experience an outbreak at all!.

It's a difficult thing to deal with, particularly as there is no real way of identifying where you contracted the virus because of its ability to stay dormant!. As such, there is no point in laying blame or trying to work out who gave it to who, you just need to accept that you now have it, and move on with your life in a positive way!.

First and foremost you can NOT get HSV 2 from HSV 1!. They are different viruses!. It is completely FALSE that you can get one from the other!. HSV 2 prefers the genital areas and HSV 1 prefers the mouth!.

You CAN have HSV 1 in the genital area and HSV 2 in the mouth!. But you can NOT get HSV 2 from HSV 1 and vice versa!. The virus does not change depending on location!. If you have 1, and pass it on, then that person has 1 and the same for 2!.

However if you do let it progress without receiving proper treatment you can have outbreaks anywhere on your body!.

As well the virus can remain latent!. However that is only after an initial outbreak!. You will always have an initial outbreak 2-3 weeks after first coming in contact with the virus!.

Just because someone has herpes does NOT mean they will pass it on to the person they are kissing or having sex with!. The virus can lay dormant!. If you are actively shedding the virus, by experiencing prodomes, having an outbreak, or not taking care of your herpes, you will more than likely pass it on!. It does not mean in every instance you will pass it on to your partner though!.

Please see your Doctor and start treatment immediately!. Taking medication the first time you have an outbreak can greatly reduce the amount and intensity of future outbreaks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What more than likely happened is that you gave your wife oral sex, passed on your HSV 1 to her and then when you guys had sex, she passed it back to your genital area and the doctors didn't actually check to see what kind of HSV is in your genital area, but assumed it was HSV2 because that's usually the kind that is down there!. Since you've had HSV1 in your mouth, you probably gave it to your wife and so on!.!.!.It was more than likely inevitable!.

It is possible that the virus has been dormant, but with you already having oral herpes, it's more likely that you have HSV1 down there and your doctor diagnosed you with 2 without running the test to find out if it really is 1 or 2!. You can get 1 or 2 in either place, but bottom line is, herpes is herpes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, first off, it's a good thing you know you have type 2 now, but of course, it's not something you like to hear!.!.!. I am also type 1 and 2 positive!. Had type 1 since I was younger also, and in my last serious commited relationship, I got type 2 from my boyfriend, but didnt find out till feb this year!. I've never had outbreaks till now, and they are nothing but a ONE minor micro cut, they dont even look like blisters!. But yup!.!. I have it!.!.!. so yes, I do beleive you can have it for months to years without EVER havin an outbreak!. my doctor said so!.
It could be possible that if your wife of 16 years has type 1, if she gives you oral sex, you could have contracted it that way as well, and it turned into type 2!. :( sad but true!.
So there are many possiblities!! hope I was some help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ok first of all, ChefJulie!.!.!.!.!.Go read up on herpes and call your doctor with questions because yes, you can in fact get HSV1 from HSV2 or vice versa! Herpes can be passed if you have an open wound and the other person is having an outbreak!.!.!.!.This is the time you are most likely to get it! Herpes, does in fact, lie dormant in your system at times and you could pass it to someone else who doesn't have it!. The chances of that, though, are highly unlikely!. I have HSV2 and my ex-husband never had anything!. I told him upfront what I had before we ever had sex!. Obviously he was ok with it because I was very responsible and wouldn't come near him during an outbreak!. After we were married, we continued to have unprotected sex and he never got it!. Yes, he could've contracted it and it could be lying dormant in his body, but we were together for 3 years and I think if he had gotten it, it would've come out by now!. Just be careful people! Ask questions before having sex and always always always protect yourself and others!!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's possible, sometimes you never show symptoms, but its also possible that you spread it to her first, from oral/genital contact!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes absolutely!. The virus can lay dormant in your system for years and may surface at some point in time due to stress or some other factor!.

JessWww@Answer-Health@Com

This is possible because often times viruses are latent and thus don't produce outbreaks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've heard that some people can be carriers and never have an outbreak, so yes it is possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
