What is the relationship between cold sores and herpes simplex?!

Question: What is the relationship between cold sores and herpes simplex!?
Answers:
A 'cold sore' is the name we give an outbreak of oral herpes simplex!. It sounds better, doesn't it, that saying you have a herpes outbreak on your mouth!?

Herpes, whether on the mouth or the genitals, stays dormant most of the time in the nerve ganglion, where your immune system keeps it from surfacing!. Every now and then, often when you are run down or ill, your immune system stops keeping the virus dormant and it surfaces, appearing on the skin and becoming infectious!. The virus can also sometimes be on the skin and infectious without a cold sore appearing!. The cold sore is what happens when the virus causes lesions on the skin!.

Oral herpes is usually caused by the herpes virus hsv-1!. Hsv-1 also causes 50-70% of genital herpes!. Hsv-1 causes a much milder infection on the genitals than it does on the mouth, but we don't get to call it a cold sore when it is down there!. We have to call it a GENITAL HERPES OUTBREAK!. Sounds much worse doesn't it!?

Anyone that gets cold sores can give you genital herpes if they give you oral sex!. They can also give you oral herpes if they kiss you!.The risk is highest when they have a cold sore, but there is also about a 10% risk they are infectious when no cold sore is present!. I have genital hsv-1 caught through oral sex, and my boyfriend had no cold sore when he infected me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
