Question: My friend has hereditary haemochromatosis (hi iron blood)!. What should he do or, not do!?
Answers:
This is kind of a weird answer, but its true, I assure you!. The thing that we had our patient do was to donate blood, about a pint, once or twice a week depending on the severity!. You will want to do this for a couple of months and get retested!. From the decrease in ferritin, you will then be able to project how often from that point forward your friend will have to continue to donate!. In addition, restricting iron consumption in the diet is important, as well as actually supplimenting with Vitamin B12 and Folic acid!.

Hope this helps
