Sometimes is called Mitral Valve Regurgitation and the first answerer explains the rest!. Can be very minor and never need any kind of intervention except that you MUST always take antibiotics before getting any kind of dental work (even cleaning) or any kind of surgical procedure in order to prevent an infection and developing endocarditis!. If the "leak" is very significant then a valve replacement is the treatment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The valve a mechanism to make sure the blood flows forward, when the heart pumps!. When it cannot do this efficiently it flows backwards!.
This means your heart cannot deliver as before!. You end up with cirulatory insufficiency!.
