Is skin cancer hereditory?!

Question: Is skin cancer hereditory!?
My nan had skin cancer (she died of an unrelated illness, not of the skin cancer)!. no one in the rest of the family has had, or is currently suffering from, any type of cancer, but is skin cancer hereditory!?
also, because my nan had skin cancer, does that mean that the rest of the family are more likely to get other forms of cancer!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Most skin cancers aren't hereditary, but research programmes have found a few families who do seem to have a higher incidence than normal!.

If you have a parent who's had squamous cell skin cancer, you have a 2 to 3 times higher than average risk of getting one yourself, and family history is probably also linked to increased risk of basal cell skin cancer!.

People with fair skin are more susceptible to skin cancers, and skin type runs in families, so people from fair skinned families will be more at risk than people from dark skinned families, but not because they have a cancer gene running in the family!.

No, a family member having had skin cancer does not mean the rest of your family are more likely to get other cancers!.

Fewer than 10% of all cancer cases are due to hereditary factors, the rest are random!.

Just keep an eye on the moles; the signs that a mole may be cancerous are: getting bigger ,changing shape, changing colour or becoming patchy looking, itching or bleeding, and then the mole must be looked at by a specialist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Genetics: Having a family history of melanoma increases the risk of developing this cancer!. Heredity may play a role!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My mother had some skin cancer removed from her nose!. WE arent guaranteed it but it is possible!. The doctor advised us (her children) to be more proactive with skin protection!. We were told to be very mindful of our sunscreen use, wear hats, and go to the doctor if we noticed anything suspicious!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If someone in your family had it, you are more prone to get it!. I would go to the doctor and have him check your spots and moles yearly!. My friend has melanoma run in her family, and she goes yearly!. This year they removed two moles and one of them had precancerous cells in it!. I would just to be safe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i dont think so because skin cancer is caused by how much sun light you are exposed to thats why its bad to go get a tan in the sun or even a tanning salonWww@Answer-Health@Com

They say you can have weakness to it but aren't guaranteed to get it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Skin cancer is not hereditory!. If one person in your family gets it like grandma it doesnt mean that you will get it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not exactly!. My dad has skin cancer but I'm at high risk because in got his skin type, not the disease!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You may be more prone but are not garenteed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
