Question: My 4 year old has hand foot and mouth!. guidelines!?
he is well in himself,eating,drinking and playing as normal!. as the incubation period for hfm is 3-7 days is it nessasary to keep him off school as he would have been infectious last week before the rash appeared!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is highly contagious!. You can get it too!. He needs to have his own drink-ware, utensils and washcloths washed immediately after each use!.
I would contact the school and see what they say!. They may have different or stricter guidelines than CDC and they will need to know what is going on so that they can alert other parents!.
The CDC says this about school: "Exclusion of ill persons may not prevent additional cases since the virus may be excreted for weeks after the symptoms have disappeared!."
