1!. Cover cold sores with a protective petroleum-based product!. This will speed healing and help protect it from secondary infection with bacteria!.

2!. Reach for aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen!. Cold sores can be quite painful!. Over-the- counter painkillers can help!.

3!. Avoid salty or acidic foods!. Foods such as potato chips or citrus fruits can further irritate cold sores and add to the pain!.

Call your dentist - ask him to call you in Valtrex for a 10 day supply!. Take 2 the first time and then one at night and one in the morning!.

Now your also going to ask him to call in Denavir cream which is a topical!. Apply this at least 3 -4 times a day and keep the area DRY - people always keep it moist to relieve cracking and pain, but all your a doing is making that nasty thing last longer!. Keep the area clean and dry!. Light coats of this med will help!. Normally it will reomve it all in just 3 days - if you catch it before it surfaces - that normally itchy tingle feeling --- TAKE THE MEDS IMMEDIATELY it will stop it from ever surfacing!.



In essence you are treating it from the inside and out!. It is pretty expensive, even with insurance, but its worth every penny to get rid of those terrible things!

Like the other person said, this is the herpes virus type 1, which is mainly an virus that activates on the lips, but can also appear elsewhere!. Once you catch the virus, it will be with you forever but don't think you will have sores all the time!. Don't feel alone, they say that by the time we are adults, over 80% of the population has this virus!. Even so, you need to be careful about spreading it, many people don't have a chance to not catch it because often times a loving relative will accidentally pass the virus to a child!. Also be careful with any fluid that may ooze from a sore, it is laden with the virus and you may accidentally spread the virus to another place on your body!.

You can get a doctor to write you a prescription for medication to help prevent outbreaks, generic @ walmart & other stores for as little as $4!.!.!.!.call around to check b4 you go!. The medication can either be taken every day or just when you feel an outbreak coming!.

There are also other steps you can take to prevent them, or reduce the # you get!. These don't involve a dr appointment:

1) do not let your lips get sunburned or windburned!. the dryness and cracking make it easier for a cold sore to activate!. Use moisturizing lip balm with sunscreen!. If you feel a tingle where a cold sore might be starting, you can also apply regular chapstick and it should stop it b4 it becomes a full blown blister!.

2) Two people should not kiss if one or both of them has a cold sore until is is 100% completely healed and gone, including the scab that can develop!. Ask any new person you may want to kiss if they have had cold sores in the past!. I would feel bad if I passed the cold sore virus on to someone who'd never had it!. The initial outbreaks are tough to deal with!. Even if you both already have it, one persons active cold sore can be passed to the other if they kiss at that time!.

3) Try not to get stressed, or let your body get stressed!. Don't sweat the small stuff!. Make sure you get enough sleep, dont get dehydrated!.
