You can alter any cake recipe to make it diabetic friendly (and just more healthy)!. Replace the sugar with Splenda and replace the oil with applesauce or canned pumpkin!. Also, the white flour is almost as bad as sugar so I use whole grain wheat in my recipes!. It is a bit denser but my family likes the flavor and it doesn't wreak havoc with blood sugar!. You can also use egg substitute in place of eggs!. Works just the same!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most diabetics eat sugared things, just in moderation!. But to be safe, you could make an angel food cake and cover it with strawberries or berries mushed up with a little Splenda or Equal!. Another option is to do a plain yellow cake or strawberry cake bundt-style and drizzle an icing over it that is 1/2 powdered sugar and 1/2 Splenda mixed with just enough water to make it drizzle!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sugar-free Jello with fresh fruit (berries are in season and a good choice) topped with whipped cream!. To make it a little fancier, you can layer the jello, fruit and whipped cream!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Being a type 1 diabetic, I have found multiple good low carbohydrate recipes for diabetics at http://www!.lowcarbluxury!.com/lowcarb-rec!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its not cake but it is good for diabetes since there is no carbohydrates - Sugar free jello (whichever flavor you prefer) with Cool Whip!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's kind of a lose lose situation because they can't have a lot of sugar, but artificial sweeteners can have a bad long term effect on health!.

Maybe you can try finding a low sugar recipe, or make a different type of dessert!. Natural sugars are usually easier for the body to process than granulated sugars!. That means that something that gets most of it's sweetness from fruit, for example, will be better than most of the sweetness from sugar or honey!.

You can use artificial sweeteners, but please don't use Splenda!. Yes, it says that it's made from sugar so it tastes like sugar, but that's just the pretty side!. Splenda's makeup resembles pesticides more than it does sugar!. The reason that it has no calories is because your body doesn't think it's food and has no idea what to do with it, so it just passes it!. Okay, I'm done ranting!. Other types of artificial sweeteners are better to use than Splenda, so go with Equal or something else!. Make sure you follow the measuring directions since one cup of sugar will equal somewhere around 1/3 cup of artificial sweeter!. Look at the brand to get the conversions!.

Also remember that most diabetics have their diabetes pretty controlled!. They have made dietary changes, yes, but they probably are taking medications or insulin to make sure that their bodies know how to handle their insulin right!. That means that they should be able to have some sugar in moderation!.

Since diabetics also can have a problem with lots of starchy foods, maybe you can make a dinner that is low in carbs (and starchy veggies like peas and corn) so that a reasonably sugary desert won't be so bad!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Diabetics (both type 1 and 2) can enjoy occasional treats!. If the family suffers from type 2, then you might consider something like Angel-food cake!. That way, they can enjoy more than just a bite!.

Many type 1 diabetics carb-count, that is to say, what they eat determines the amount of insulin they'll take, not the other way around!. So go ahead and make the cake, just be able to tell them how many carbs are in a serving!. That way, they can enjoy it and know how much they should dose for!.

Figuring out carbs on homemade snacks/dinners is extra work on your end, but it's such a thoughtful thing to do for a diabetic!. Most people say to themselves, "oh they're used to being diabetic, they'll know what to do," or "Well Gina won't be able to have any!." But that's not true at all!. She CAN have it and not all cake slices are the same!. I love when people do this for us, it says so much more than math!. It shows they care about Gina, her health, and if she can enjoy what they've made for us!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
