Thorn causing tetanus?!
Question: Thorn causing tetanus!?
Can a thorn about a centimeter long cause me to have tetanus!? It stuck me in the foot and now a know has come up under my skin!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
When did you step on the thorn!? Were you wearing shoes!? The reason I ask is, you can get a number of infections from plant material!. Sporothrix Shenckii (Rose-Pickers Disease) and Clostridium Tetani (tetanus) are just a few!. Additionally puncture wounds are prone to infection!.
Best advice!. Go see your doctor!!!!! If you have not had a tetanus booster in the past 5 years, you will probably get one!. You will probably also be put on an antibiotic for cellulitis (infection of the skin/tissues) or an abscess!.
Tetanus is much less likely than an infection with another bacteria!. If the swelling has gone down, you are probably okay!. I would not worry as much about Tetanus!.
Although rusty nails/knives are the most common cause of Tetanus, it is not the only cause as suggested below!. Most individuals in the US are immunized against tetanus, which prevents many infections!.
Tetanus is in the soil (everywhere) and can be transmitted if a wound is particularly dirty!. Saliva from an infected animal, introduced foreign plant matter are other mechanisms for tetanus to get into an injury site!. Puncture wounds are particulary bad as Tetanus is anaerobic, meaning grows without oxygen!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
