Hi!. I have Leukemia - CML!. I knew something was wrong because I was so tired, I just couldn't accomplish anything, and I was always a high energy person!. I found out what I had through a blood test, a CBC!. I take a chemo - gleevec - every single day!. The worst thing is it damages your immune system, so you can't go to movies, or plays, or out in crowds!. You have to be careful!. You can get sick easy and bruse easy!. You have to get blood work done to make sure your liver, spleen, and kidneys are okay!. Your hair can thin from the chemo!. I always feel queasy!. On the "upbeat" side, 8 years ago - I was told I had one to three years to live!. You also learn to appreciate each and every day and all the people that love you!. Leukemia affects the body in so many different ways!. It is hard to know where to start!. Basically it causes the bone marrow to pretty much stop making white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets!. The symptoms are based on what those cells do for you!. White blood cells fight infections!. Without them people get sick very easily and have a really hard time getting over illnesses!. Red blood cells carry oxygen!. Without that you become anemic which can cause fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, fainting, pale skin, chest pains and many other symptoms!. Platelets help our blood to clot!. Without them you can bleed very easily!. This could cause easy bruising or even death from hemorrhaging!. I guess this is a quick overview, but there tons of other possible symptoms and everyone is affected a bit differently!. It also depends on the type of leukemia!. The bottom line though is that leukemia is a very very serious disease and needs to be treated immediately! I work with tons of leukemic patients at the hospital I work on!. It is a tough road, but there is hope!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
From first hand experience Leukemia starts out affecting the blood cells which invade the bone marrow!. In turn when the leukemia gets hold on your body it affects your heart and every part of your body!.I am in almost constant pain in my bones!. but at least I am in remission!. This is one of the worst cancers there is next to breast cancer,liver cancer,pancreatic cancer etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
