Answers:
Ask for a glucose tolerance test!.

This involves fasting overnight, followed by taking a blood sample, then you drink a sugary drink and they retest 2 hours later!.

This will give the doctor a more accurate picture of how your body is handling sugar then an HbA1c alone!.

I always tell people they should get BOTH tests done, because relying on only one or the other may give you a false sense of security!.

You could be pre-diabetic, even with an HbA1c of 5!.4!.

The HbA1c is one of the best tests out there, but its not enough on its own to really uncover prediabetes or possilby early diabeties!.

It didn't uncover my husband's diabetes!. He had to have both tests for the doctor to discover that his pre-diabetes had gotten worse and become diabetes, and was bad enough to need treatment!.

Some doctors tend to put off treatment but the earlier you treat high blood sugar, the better!.

Your random tests show that you DO have blood sugar in diabetic ranges sometimes after meals!. 230 is pretty high, definitely a diabetic level, and your doctor should do further tests!.

Do keep in mind that your home meter is not as accurate as a lab!. In fact, home meters can be up to 20% off either way, and still be considered accurate enough for home use!.

The glucose tolerance test is really the next best step,

IMHO

OK, I am non diabetic, my A1C is 5!.4 also but I have never had a higher number than 172 and it was just a spike cuz 2 seconds later it went down to 94!.!.!.!.but I have never had it go up before like that!. All my fastings are in the 80's!.
I would just get the test done cuz if it was me, I would feel the 200 was high!.!.!.!.
Thanks and good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Get the test done so you know for sure!. You have some higher readings and you should get tested!. 230 is high, even if you are a non diabetic and have just eaten!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

He didn't do a complete blood count panel!? There are lots of reasons for your symptoms and not all of them are glucose!!! But most are endocrine system related!.

A1c is the percentage of glucose molecules sticking to red blood cells averaged over the last 3 months, that being the life of red blood cell, with heavier rating on the last 30 days!.

Random finger sticks numbers depend on a lot of factors!. Such as: how long since your last meal or snack, what you ate, what you drank, stress, infections that may be present in bod, and some other things!.

Set up a regular testing schedule, fasting: the first thing when you get out of bed, and a random test before a meal during the day and before bedtime!. Journal all of these and also, what you eat each meal of the day, exercises done and times, and how you are feeling at the moment!. then you can go back to the doctor with the results of this journal with a better attitude!.

Doctors work for us!!! would you allow the maid to tell you that the floor is clean enough and doesn't need mopped!?!? or the beds don't need changing!?!? The doctor is not hired to tell us we are Psycho or berate us for the way we eat, gain or lose weight, or to demand that we do things only his way!.

Be sure to get copies of all test results, that way you know the numbers and can refer back!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hemoglobin is a protein found in your red blood cells!. It is responsible for carrying oxygen in the red blood cells to the rest of your body, for energy!. The "life" of red blood cells is about two to three months!. The body continuously makes new red blood cells to replace those that die!.

Sugar in your blood can bind to hemoglobin, and the more sugar in the blood, the more binds to hemoglobin!. Thus, the A1C test measures the average blood sugar levels over the two to three month life span of the red blood cells!.

Based on a "normal" blood glucose range, there is also a "normal" A1C range!. This range is typically stated to be 4% to 6%, meaning that of all the hemoglobin in the red blood cells, 4 to 6% has sugar bound to it!.

YOURS IS 5!.4 WHICH IS PERFECT

Normal glucose levels for this test fall between 70 and 145!. Random blood sugar testing checks glucose levels randomly throughout the day, regardless of meal times!. If levels vary widely, there could be a problem!. Blood sugar levels should be between 70 and 125 in order to be considered normal for random testing!. The 'oral glucose tolerance test' diagnoses diabetes and predicaments!. This tests your blood after drinking a glucose drink!. If you think you may have a blood sugar disorder, contact your primary care physician for testing!. There are many conditions that can cause a change in your blood glucose levels!. Normal results may vary depending on the lab!.
