Question: If someone from the early 1900's got sick in a house, what could cause it!?
It's for a story I am writing!. It takes place in the 1900's so that is important obviously!. It can't be something uncommon or unknown at that time period!. Also it has to be something that could make them sick, and could have killed them if they didnt leave in time!. In other words it cant be something that would kill them immediately!. thanks for your help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There were a whole bunch of fatal diseases during that time: TB, the influenza outbreak, diphtheria, typhoid fever, typhus, etc!. It's important to remember that hygiene and sanitation were not that great in the US at that time and there no were antibiotics either, so diseases spread like wildfire!.

I'd recommend doing typhus!. My great-grandfather died of typhus in 1907 after having it for a few days!. Typhus is spread by the feces of body lice or fleas, which are scratched into the skin when a person itches the bite area!. The symptoms are fever, headache, rash, weakness, muscle aches, and in the worst cases, swelling of the heart and brain!. It is now easily treated by antibiotics and is no longer common in the US because of better sanitation and hygiene!. In the 1900s, it was probably treated with fever powder in an attempt to lower the patient's fever!.

Good luck with your story!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd say that Smallpox is the kind of illness you can write about!. People have discovered a way to vaccinate against Smallpox in 1800's!. But not everyone was vaccinated against it in early 1900's!. And people were still getting sick and dying from it!.

Another illness people were dying from was Typhus!. They didn't have any antibiotics against it then!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

TB was a common illness then!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
