Does my 9 year old have an eating disorder?!

Question: Does my 9 year old have an eating disorder!?
She has always had a problem with being small but lately I think that she has an eating disorder!. This occured to me the other day when she put on her swim suit and looked in the mirror, she was trying to pinch her "fat"!.

She eats but not much, usually about 3-4 bites then says she is full!. If I force her to eat, telling her she cant leave the table until all her food is gone!.!.!.!.she will eat it and throw up (usually before she leaves the table)!. She doesnt gag herself or anything!. She does complain of a stomach ache though!.

I dont know if this is an eating disorder or not!. It never occured to me that it might be until she was checking her "fat"!. Believe me she is not fat, she is very tiny and her spine is seen!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like she could be well on her way to developing an eating disorder if she doesn't already have one!. These days, the media and such is playing such a big role in girls' lives, and it is not unheard of for 10, 9 and even 8 year olds to be diagnosed with eating disorders!. I would definitely intervene before it gets much worse!. Im recovering anorexia now, and it is the most difficult thing i have ever had to overcome!. I wish someone would have stopped me before it got too worse!. I would sit down with your daughter and talk to her!. Help her realize that she IS beautiful just the way she is, and that stick thin is not beauty!. Help her build her self-esteem, and teach her about the importance of healhty eating habits!. Also, pay attention to what you say in front of her!. Do you often complain about your own body!? Doctors say that many times, children learn to criticize their own bodies by watching their mothers!. I'm definitley not saying its your fault; you just need to be careful what you say in front of her!. If her behaviors begin to gte worse, i would definitely take her to the doctors though!. Don't let her behaviors progress into a full-blown disorder!.

Lastly, i congratulate you for being so aware of your daughter!. Many parents are too busy with their own lives, and fail to notice that their child may be having a problem!. Your daughter is lucky to have a mom like you!.

She may be on her way!. If she eats so little & is literally anorexic (has no appetite); it could make your daughter unable to eat & make her throw up without "making herself vomit"!.

Take her to the MD for a comprehensive work-up & let him know of your concerns!. Ask the MD about a decent # of calories/day to eat for your daughter's size & to recommend a multiple vitamin also!.

If she's throwing up at the dinner table after eating a few bites, you really need to take her to see a doctor to do a thorough examination!. If it was just that she's small for her size, that would be one thing, but the vomitting would concern me a lot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am kinda worried for you because my friends daughter had stomach cancer and had the same tummy ache symtoms!. there might be a valid medical cause aside from the fear of becoming fat!. Google stomach cancer on the web to compare other sympoms, good luck, dont mean to scare you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Please take her to see a doctor!. They need to check for food sensitivities!. If those certain foods hurt her stomach then she's probably going to avoid them!. Try an elimination diet!. Maybe you can find out what triggers the vomitting!. Are there any foods that she can eat and keep it down!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I can gaurentee you that she does not have an eating dissorder!.
I went through the same thing with my daughter!. I would check on the stomach pain!. There may be an underlying issue going on!.

Dont keep pressuring her to eat!. That will create more problems now and later on!. I know, I went through the same thing!. Its frusterating, but in time it will go away!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She needs to have a complete physical along with blood work to determine what maybe going on!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

tell her nurse and she/he tell youWww@Answer-Health@Com

I would take her to the doctor and try to find out whats wrong!. If shes not eating, and complains of a stomach ache and throws up without making herself do so, there could be something wrong with her stomach!. I would definitely bring this to the doctors attention to rule out and health problems!. Is someone close to her telling her she is fat or chubby or telling her not to get fat or making any negative remarks!? If so, it needs to stop immediately!. 9 sounds young to be concerned about being "fat"!. Especially for a little girl who is so thin already!. Call the doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
