Am I Diabetic or Did I Just Eat Too Much Sugar?!

Question: Am I Diabetic or Did I Just Eat Too Much Sugar!?
My friend checked my blood sugar with an Acucheck and got a reading of 220!. I know this is high but I'm wondering if it could be a result of what I ate today!. Throughout the day I had chocolate doughnuts, M&Ms, a pepsi, tea with sugar, a bologna and cheese sandwhich, and goldfish crackers!. When my friend tested my blood sugar I had literally just finished swallowing my dinner of a burger and potato salad!. This diet was completely made up of sugar and carbs!.!.!.horrendous, I know!. Could this account for the high reading!? She also didn't swab my finger with an alcohol pad before pricking my finger which makes me suspect her method could also be a little suspect!. At any rate!.!.!.should I be concerned!? No matter the answers I recieve I'm going to get an actual test done to put any lingering worries to rest!.!.!.I really just wanted some opinions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Alcohol is not necessary for doing a blood test with a meter!. I never use it either!. However, you do need to make sure you don't have any food or drink spilled on your fingers before you test, so always have clean hands before you test!. Wash with soap and water, and dry your hands!.

Your body should be able to handle all that sugar and other carbs without such a high reading, IF you aren't pre-diabetic or diabetic!. It didn't!. Therefore, there is a possibility that you are having a problem with carbs!.

I'd recommend both an HbA1c and a Glucose Tolerance Test at your next checkup!. If that's a long way off, you might want to consider getting it checked out now!.

Keep in mind that MOST type 2 diabetics don't have ANY symptoms until the disease has progressed undiagnosed for several years!. On average, most type 2's are diagnosed after having the disease for about 8 years, when symptoms finally start showing up and damage has already been done to the body by high blood sugar!.

Not everyone with type 2 diabetes has symptoms, particularly in the early stages of the disease!. In fact, one-third of the over 18 million Americans with type 2 diabetes are unaware that they have the disease!.

Type 2 diabetes symptoms may include one or more of the following:

Excessive thirst
Frequent urination
Extreme hunger
Unexplained weight loss
Fatigue, or a feeling of being "run down" and tired
Rapid breathing
Blurred vision
Dry, itchy skin
Headache
Tingling or burning pain in the feet, legs, hands, or other parts of the body
High blood pressure
Mood swings
Irritability, depression
Frequent or recurring infections, such as urinary tract infections, yeast infections, and skin infections
Slow healing of cuts and bruises

Unlike type 1 diabetes, which frequently has a sudden onset of symptoms and reaches a crisis point before diagnosis is made, the signs of type 2 diabetes may be gradual and more insidious!. Often, the first symptoms that people with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes experience are those from complications of the disease, such as blurry vision (retinopathy) or foot pain (neuropathy)!.
