Don't get down on yourself over this; it happens to a LOT more people than you would think! Especially if it's as rare as once a year, there's probably nothing seriously wrong with you -- it's just an odd combination of circumstances that leads to your bladder getting too full during the night, and your body being too sound asleep to feel it!.

The above suggestions are all good -- watching your fluid intake at night and making sure to empty your bladder before bed, and setting an alarm during the night if you need to -- but they aren't always foolproof, as I'm sure you can relate!. Comparing what happens on your "wet" nights to what happens on your "normal" nights might give you a clue as to what will work better:

Do you ever (on ordinary occasions) wake up during the night needing to urinate!? If so, it means that your bladder probably can't always hold it through the whole night (nothing to be embarrassed about, actually about 20% of the population is like this) and you'll need to focus on making sure you wake up during the night in order to stay dry!. You could try setting an alarm for the same time each night (maybe 2 or 3 hours after going to sleep) and this could "train" your body to wake up and use the bathroom at that time, to make it easier on your bladder making it through the rest of the night!.

On the other hand, if you never wake up during the night and are dry 99% of the time, then something is probably changing about your body chemistry or fluid balance that's causing you to wet the bed!. In that case, focus on developing a good daily routine for fluid intake (drink PLENTY of fluids EARLY in the day, so you won't be as thirsty closer to bedtime, and stay especially clear of caffeine and alcohol late in the day) and you'll likely be able to protect yourself from the occasional wet bed -- and if you're away from home you can still try the alarm trick just to be extra safe!.

Stress, unfortunately, can worsen both of the above conditions, so you'll want to try to limit your stress as much as possible (easier said than done, I know!!)!. This is especially true if you were ever a more frequent bedwetter when you were younger (over the age of 5 or so), in which case stress can cause your bladder to "relapse" into the old pattern of letting go instead of holding on until you wake up!. A LOT of former bedwetters still have accidents in this fashion even in adult life (most of us just don't tell our friends about it either!); it's frustrating but common, and definitely nothing to be ashamed of, as it's completely out of your body's control!.

Also, please don't feel stupid about going to the doctor -- you will NOT be the first 17 year old (or older) your doctor has seen about this problem! Since it happens so rarely, though, it might not be worth any solution the doctor would offer (meds, etc!.) but it might still give you peace of mind to rule out any possible underlying conditions!.

Good luck, I know it's a really frustrating condition but hang in there, there are a lot of worse things you can have! I hope you're able to find a solution that puts a stop to the problem for good, but if not, at least know that you're not alone, not a weirdo or a freak, and it's not your fault!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You'll be fine! Please don't be embarrassed! That kind of stuff happens to people all the time, but I do understand!. Since it happens only once a year, it's not exactly a "chronic" problem!. If you don't want to see a Doctor, just wait!. You may grow out of it!.!.!.you're 17! Your body is still growing and developing! Be patient with yourself! Relax! If it's still a problem when you get a bit older, see a urologist!. There is medication that can help! kjlWww@Answer-Health@Com

It happens!. Don't drink for a couple of hours before you go to bed!. Use the bathroom immediately before going to bed!. You should be able to make it through til morning!. If that doesn't work, you might want to set an alarm half way through the night--- just so you can get up to pee!. If all else fails, tell your doctor!. Sweety, a lot of people have frequency problems!. They can prescribe medication to help you with that!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Alex falls into an extremely deep sleep almost every night!. He sleeps so soundly that you could set off a fire alarm next to his bed and he probably wouldn't hear it!. Even having to pee doesn't wake him up, so Alex sometimes wets the bed!. He feels embarrassed, but isn't alone
