Answers:
First off, you have two different issues at play here!.!.!.elevated hepatic enzymes and decreased thyroid functioning (but indeterminate as to alone or with another endocrine gland)!.

AST aka SGOT stands for Aspartate aminotransferase or Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase!. Average levels are 8-38 units/L!. Yours is elevated!.

ALT aka SGPT stands for Alanine aminotransferase or Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase!. Average 10-35 units/L!. Yours is very elevated!.

Both of these may indicate some type of liver damage or hepatic insufficiency!. Both of these may be abnormally elevated by antibiotics, aspirin, or most drugs metabolized by the liver!. Ergo, the reason why your MD asked for more specific tests for either mono/hepatitis anaysis!.

TSH stands for Thyroid Stimiulating Hormone!. Average levels are 0!.35-5!.5 mIU/mL!. Yours are low indicating a need for Free T3/T4 analysis to determine if the pituitary gland along with the Thyroid is dysfunctional or just the thyroid itslef is malfuncitoning!. Only a comparasion of the TSH to the T3/T4 can determine which (why the need for more tests by your MD)!. The other T3-R1A, TSH, and Free T4 are necessary to determine which part of the complicated thyroid functioning is being impaired!.

Either way, after all this is said and done, you really need to sit down with your MD and have a discussion as to what s/he is really looking for and keep asking until you get an answer you are satisifed with and you, more importantly, understand and can restate back to friends/family!. If you can't retell what and why, you need to ask more questions and get better explainations!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

TSH, T3 and T4 are simply checking your thyroid hormones which is generally treated with taking thyroid hormone if you are hypo or various treatments for hyper such as meds, treatment to destroy part of the thyroid or removal of all or part of the thyroid!. Not sure what the normal values of ASH are for your lab but with elevated levels thier could be damage or disease to an organ such as heart or liver!. Elevated ALT could be an indication of liver disease or damage also!. It is normally found in the blood but just an elevated level is worth a follow up!Www@Answer-Health@Com

The first tests you mention are primarily liver enzyme tests, and a thyroid function test!. The first two are high, the second one is low!. TSH is produced by the pituitary gland, and instructs the thyroid to release T3 and T4, which control things like metabolism!. Based on your test results, the doctors can't tell if the problems you have are due to a liver or thyroid problem- and that's what the next round of tests are meant to help decide!. At this point, there's no reason to get all upset!. It could be something as simple as a problem with your gallbladder- easily fixed!. It could be hyperthryoid, also controllable with medications!. So don't let your imagination and fear run away with you just yet!. Most things that go "wrong" with the body are manageable, it's just sometimes figuring out what exactly has gone astray can take a bit!. Working with the body isn't always as easy as repairning a car!. For starters, they can't hook you up to the computer for a diagnostic!. They have to do it the old fashioned way, with lab tests!. The first round of tests were to find out exactly what systems might have trouble, this next round will narrow in the field!. Then you should have your answer!. In the meantime, you may as well try not to go buggy as it's not going to change anything and will only make you feel worse!. Try to stay as calm as you can, and think positively!. As I said, most all the troubles can be dealt with!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I can only comment on the thyroid test!. You may be hyperthyroid!. You had a TSH test, which is just a basic screening test!. It can't be used for anything except to tell you that you need more testing, and you do need more testing!. So what you're going through is perfectly normal!.

The T3 and free T4 tests will tell you how well your thyroid is functioning!. It will tell you for sure if you are hyperthyroid or not!.

Unfortunately, hyperthyroidism is just a SYMPTOM, not a DIAGNOSIS!. If it turns out that you are hyperthyroid, you will need yet more testing to find out WHY you are hyperthyroid!.

The number one most common cause of hyperthyroidism is Grave's disease!. The treatment for Grave's disease is a cheap, simple, generic prescription medication!. So don't worry!. Just get the testing and see where you are!. If you have a good doctor (and that's a big if) Grave's disease is no big deal!. If you have a bad doctor, they will try to talk you into some really frightening "treatments" for Grave's disease that involve radiation or surgery, and will only make you sicker!. If you encounter this, don't panic, just get a new doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ast &alt are for liver function--- they are both very high!.

tsh is tells if your thyroid is being stimulated to work right---that # is very low!.

you didn't mention any symptoms your having so there is no way i could even think of a possibility!.

call your dr!. in the a!.m!. and demand that he/she call you back themself not the nurse that way you can ask and get direct answers, better yet make another appt!. so you can do it in person!.

write down a list of exact questions and write down the dr!.s answers so you can review them once your home!. also take a friend/family w/ you in case you miss something!.

good luck i wish you the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you can google it and it will tell you what all of that means!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
