Chronic pancreatitis?!


Question: Chronic pancreatitis!?
my mom was recently diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis which is just chronic inflamation of the pancreas!. my dad said that this can often lead to pancreatic cancer, which is intreatable and often leads to death!. however, i did some research on this and found nothing that verified that!.
also, when i was researching, i came across a statistic that said 70% of cases of pancreatitis are caused by drinking!. my dad drank for thiry-five years and quit nearly nine months ago, and he doesn't have this disorder!. my mom, on the other hand, hasn't had a drink since she was pregnant with me sixteen years ago!.

this is my mom!. i'm worried!.

Chronic pancreatitis is an inflammatory condition that results in permanent structural changes in the pancreas, which can lead to impairment of exocrine and endocrine function!. The clinical manifestations of this disorder include chronic abdominal pain and pancreatic exocrine and endocrine dysfunction!. There may also be an association with pancreatic cancer!. Not everyone agrees with this and the risk, if real, is very low!. When the pancreas is dysfunctional you mother may develope diabetes and diarrhea with malabsorption of nutrients possibly leading to malnourishment if not treated properly!.

In addition, chronic pancreatitis can be associated with a variety of complications!. The most common are pseudocyst formation and mechanical obstruction of the duodenum and common bile duct; less frequent complications include pancreatic ascites or pleural effusion, splenic vein thrombosis with portal hypertension, and pseudoaneurysm formation, particularly of the splenic artery!. I have had pancreatitis in my family and the pancreatitic cancer, too!. Mom had pancreatitis once!. Her father died of pancreatic cancer and so did his mother!.

I have seen that there is a procedure that is probably not done just anywhere, where they scope down through the throat to the stomach, then down a bit further and the doctor can see the opeing of the pancreas!. I saw it done on "Mystery Diagnosis"!. The person had suffered a long time with vomitting before the cause was found!.

Do a search for it and find doctors in your area or as close as possible who can help to fine tune your mother's diagnosis!. I know that pancreatitis can be a very painful condition!.
