Answers:
Any illness that lasts more than 6 months is considered chronic!.

Even with treatment epilepsy is a lifelong condition, which one CANNOT grow out of or be treated and cured!.!.!.!. So even if it is under control it would be considered chronic!.!.!.

With that said, some life changes can bring on symptoms not previously seen and then after that life change has waned the person may become asymptomatic!.!.!. as in the case with epilepsy whose onslaught is puberty!.!.!. Some youths become asymptomatic once they are out of there teenage years, However, that DOES NOT mean that they are free of epilepsy!. While they may or may-not continue throughout life without symptoms, the symptoms could return at any time and again require treatment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Epilepsy is a general term used for a group of disorders that cause disturbances in electrical signaling in the brain!.!.!. Like an office building or a computer, the brain is a highly complex electrical system, powered by roughly 80 pulses of energy per second!.!.!. These pulses move back and forth between nerve cells to produce thoughts, feelings, and memories!.!.!.Epilepsy is not contagious!.!.!. A tendency toward epilepsy may be inherited, but it cannot be caught like a cold from another person!.!.!. Wen you have epilipsy you have it for life but by medicines you can lessen or minimize the attacks or seizures!.!.!. Several treatments are available for epilepsy!.!.!. The key to finding an effective treatment is an accurate diagnosis of the type of epilepsy a person has!.!.!. Current treatment options can control seizures for about 80% of the people in the United States who have epilepsy!.!.!. Once a diagnosis of epilepsy is established, it is important to begin treatment right away!.!.!. The longer treatment is delayed, the more difficult the epilepsy is to treat!.!.!.

Epilepsy is not a form of mental illness and it does not cause mental illness!.!.!. Epilepsy is not an indicator of intelligence as well!.!.!. Epilepsy affects people of average intelligence as well as those above and below average!.!.!. Some people with mental retardation may have epilepsy, but most people with epilepsy are not mentally retarded!.!.!.

Epilepsy should not be a reason to remove yourself from the joys and responsibilities of daily living!.!.!. People with epilepsy can work, be with children, go out with friends, play sports, and have meaningful relationships, including marriage!.!.!. In short, there is very little in life that having epilepsy should prevent you from doing!.!.!.

My epilepsy started at puberty and last year I was told it was gone!. I still have absences though and stress can bring on a fit too!.

I cant for the life of me remember what it is but there is a diet that if you go on it rigously for two years have actually stopped epilepsy in some cases!. They even made a film about it!. From what I remember it means cutting out all carbohydrates for two years!. I did try it years ago and mine stopped right up until I went through the change when it started again by which time Id lost all the information!.
I was lucky I had early warning so was able to relax into it so it wasnt so bad!.
They do say that epileptics have a "God" spot and are very open to anything spiritual so we cant be all that bad can we!. :-))Www@Answer-Health@Com

Epilepsy is considered chronic !. There are certain treatments , depending on the underlying cause(s)!. These include: Pharmalogical Treatments (Tegretol, Klonapin), Vagus Nerve Stimulation, or Surgery as a last resort!. Once again it all depends on the triggers of the seizures and whether or not they can be identified and/or treated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends what type of epilepsy you have!. A lot of kids with juvenile diabetes grow out of it!. Some people have a few seizures, eg following a head trauma, but never have another one!. Then there are types of epilepsy which are with you for life!. Generally the seizures can be controlled with medication!. My son has epilepsy which he developed at 6 months old, but we think he's grown out of it now - we're about to reduce his meds!. Good luck!

Edited to add: It's not about lack of oxygen to the brain although this can cause damage which causes epilepsy!. Epilepsy is a misfiring of neurones in the brain - the signals don't happen as they should!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
