Question: My aunt is dying because her intenstines just shut down- what causes this!?
My aunt had an exploration surgery today and she is not going to make it!.
Her doctors said that her intestines were 'dead' basically like they just stopped working!.

This is called a "dead bowel" and it can happen in several ways!. It can occur when there is poor blood flow to the vessels that supply blood to the intestines or it can happen if someone has a bowel obstruction that causes decreased blood flow to the area!. Most people who have this condition are in severe pain but I did have a patient once that had it, a man, and you would have never known anything was wrong!. They opened him up and found this and didn't even wake him up from anesthesia!. They put him on a drip to keep him sedated to let his family spend some time with him because it is a very painful way to die!. I had a problem with the ethics of this because I kept thinking, if this were me, would I not want the chance to wake up and say goodbye to my family!. I don't know!. It's a sad thing!.
