As the first answerer stated, the first ob is the longest and most painful!. I didn't tak any meds for it either, and it lasted over three weeks!. I'm now on acyclovir (Zovirax) which is MUCH less expensive than valacyclovir (Valtrex)!. If you go to your local health department they should be able to give it to you for low or no cost!. Acyclovir, like valacyclovir is used for both suppression and treatment of obs!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I stumbled on this site from an old CNN article!. I don't live in the Charlotte area, but your questions/concerns are universal!.

Prior to Valtrex, the most popular was Acyclovir!. It is a generic drug that has been on the market for many years!. The cost should be considerably less than Valtrex!. It may help your financial situation!.

I also must say that Acyclovir does have a different dosage than Valtrex!. While Valtrex is 500mg (or so) a day for 1 or two times a day (depending on if you are on a maintenance plan)!. The Acyclovir is usually (or at least was) only taken during an outbreak 4-5 times per day for 5 days!. If you do go on Acylovir, I would recommend that you do take it as close to the time as you can!. When I was on it, I did notice a difference from when I missed a dose and when I took it on time!.

I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow, that's rough! The first outbreak, unfortunately is usually the longest and most painful!.It can last from 10 days to 3 weeks!. You really need the medicine,I'm afraid!. I know that it is very expensive!. Can you get it at a free clinic!?
I wish you the best of luck!. I'm so sorry that this happened to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It depends on the person!. Try not to pee and see if that helps!.
Eventually, it should resolve itself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
