Answers:
If the mother is blood type O, and the baby is any other type, it is possible for an incompatibility to occur!.

This is because people with blood type A, B or AB have markers on the surface of their red blood cell called 'antigens' that determine what blood group they are!. People with blood type O make antibodies against A antigens and B antigens - antibodies are molecules that will attack cells containing the A or B antigen (anti-A antibodies attack the A antigen, anti-B antibodies the B antigen)!. So if the baby is type A for example, and the mother is type O, the mother will make anti-A antibodies that will cross the placenta and attack the baby's blood cells!. This leads to jaundice and anaemia!.

As for blood types: you inherit two 'alleles' for your blood type, one from your mother and one from your father!. A and B are dominant, while O is recessive!. This means if you inherit an A from your mother and an O from your father, you are type A blood!. If you inherit two B's, you are type B!. If you inherit two O's, you are type O; an A and a B, and you are type AB!.

Let's say one parent has AO alleles, and the other BO alleles!. Their children might inherit A and O (type A), O and O (type O), O and B (type B) or A and B (type AB)!.

If one parent is AO and the other OO, the kids might be AO (type A) or OO (type O)!.

So yes, two partners can have kids with blood types different to their own and to the other childrens'!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When you see jaundice in the first 24 hours of life - then it is a problem!. This is usually due to an ABO incompatibility, If you have an O type blood and your baby was A, B, or AB it could be due to this, because antibodies against the babies blood can be passed through circulation!.
or if you are RH- that could be the cause (you would have gotten a shot of Rhogam at 28 weeks and 72 hours after birth depending on the baby's blood type!. It effects the second born child - and can cause what it called erythroblastosis fetalis These usually require a blood transfusion of some sort!.

If it is seen after the first 24 hours it is physiological jaundice and is common among infants!. It is due to an excess of bile pigment (the normal breakdown of Red blood cells causes)
in the blood!. This is because the liver is unable to work properly yet, but it usually resolved with photo therapy!.

It does seem like the baby would definitely have the mothers blood type to me - but it is so untrue!Www@Answer-Health@Com
