HIV Test at 8 weeks?!
Question: HIV Test at 8 weeks!?
March 2008, I was involved in a acquaintance rape with a friend who had too much alcohol (He is 21)!. It is now May 2008, and I tested over 10 times and was NEGATIVE for all STD/HERPES/HIV/HPV screening was also normal!.
I suffer from PTSD, psychosomatic disorder, and anxiety because of the rape!. IT WAS UNPROTECTED!
This "friend" is with the police and was tested in March 2008 of the rape and he was NEGATIVE and last exposure of sex for him was 7 months prior to the rape in March 2008!.
I tested negative at 43 days since my only exposure in March!.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 weeks- ALL negative
at 8 weeks which is (2 months), I started to feel a slight cough, somewhat of a sore throat, and sneezing, BUT I have no fever, no aches, no rash, no weight loss, no nausea/vomit, no swollen lymph nodes, no fatigue!. Is this HIV sero conversion at 8 weeks!?
It will be my 9th week this week and I am waiting 3 more weeks til 12 weeks which is 3 months for my last test!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some of the answers you have been given are WRONG!.
At 8 weeks, 95% of people who ARE HIV+ would have tested positive!.
By 12weeks, >99% of people who are positive would test positive!.
In very rare cases it can take up to 6 months (these are people with exisiting immune related conditions, eg!. cancer chemo/radiation, transplant recipients,) Because their immune systems are already not working properly it can take up to 6 months for them to respond and therefore test HIV antibody positive!.
Most people who experience primary HIV symptoms do so earlier than 8 weeks (though it is still possible for someone to experience seroconversion illness up to 3 months post-exposure!.
If the person who exposed you's last sexual contact was 7 months prior and he tested HIV negative, then you are at virtually no risk of HIV transmission as he would be HIV negative --- but that is assuming you can trust him to tell the truth!.

See your doctor about your cough, sore throat, and sneezing!. You may just have a cold, allergies, or sinus infection!. Your symptoms are probably not related to HIV!.
HOWEVER, it can (but does not always) take 6 months for the antibodies to show up in a test, so I recommend that you be retested, even though your "friend" tested negative 7 months after possible exposure!.

Basically, you will never know!. You just need to keep testing regularly!. HIV like HPV is viral and may lay dormant for a very long time before anyone testing positive!. Usually, the first 3 years is the most important, but people have gone years and years testing negative and suddenly testing positive when an illness occurs and the immune system finally drops low enough to allow the virus to break out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
i understand that you have been tested many times!. the best thing to do is go to your doctor and question the cough, or even look in the phone book for a community group of HIV survivors and ask about their stories!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
