Question: Medical expense question!? How is it possible shelters, have sick dogs for adoption>!?
I adopted a dog from the shelter, 8 year old poodle!. after being groomed found out it was a cockapoo (no problem, great dog) I took her to the free within 10 day vet visit, only to find out- things were bad, needed a blood test, they thought she was diabetic, now it actually turn out she has chronic kidney failure disease, anemic, and has a uniary tract infection!. got her medicine, and not going foward with a sonagram, to find out if curiable- !? It obviously breaks my heart with all that is going on with her- but of course I will do my best!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most shelters are state/county funded with tax money or run off donations!. They dont have the money to give every animal a medical work up!. If the dog wasnt showing any signs of being sick, they wouldnt have tested it for all those things!.
The chronic kidney failure is going to be immensly painful and miserable for the dog!. The other problems can be solved with antibiotics and proper diet (which it probably didnt have before being brought to the shelter)!.
However, the kidney issue is just too much for the dog!. I suggest you put the dog to sleep!. That is going to get increadble expensive, and the dog is going to be miserable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is nice to hear someone caring for animals instead of bringing them back to those sheds!.!.!.!. I myself have a number of pets (dog, cat, rabbit) in my house!.

As for the shelters, it is because of the budget!. They get their budget from charity and not a lot of people really give them much of help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have never heard of any animal shelter around here adopting a sick animal out to anyone, as most will either treat the animal then adopt it out, or if this is not feasible, put it down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't like animals, but you asked this in the human section!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What is your question!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most shelters will take any dog that is brought in to them regardless of condition!. If the dog looks like it needs medical care it should be given but it sounds like the outward condition of this dog was ok!. The shelter staff seeing a dog not looking sick or in poor health would not have sent the dog to be looked at by a vet!. Its a shame that you found out this dog was so sick!. Also owners will bring in a dog to a shelter and not give the staff all the details on their pet because it does have medical problems!. Vet records at not always asked for or required at shelters when surrendering at pet!. Plus not all shelter staff are trained to know what illnesses to look for and what questions to ask of people to know if an animal is sick!. I have picked up animals that have looked healthy to only find out that they aren't when they have been vet checked!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
