Question: My mom had a diabetic fit!?
My mom has type 1 diabetes and yesterday when I woke up she was foaming at the mouth and convulsing really badly!. I've seen her have fits before, but that was the worst I've ever seen!. When she fell over though she banged her head really hard on the chest of draws and cracked her head open!. She was unconsious for 1-2 hours and her breathing was iregular, due to both the fit and the bang of the head!. She's still in hospital now, and she's consious but she is very distant!. Her body keeps going into shocks and she keeps having mini fits!. I'm so scared!. Will she be ok!? Her blood got so low because she's on this stupid diet, and whenever I told her she shouldn't do it she continued!. I'm just so scared!. Will she be ok!? She has a bad history of fitting and I don't know if this REALLY bad one has finally taken it's tole!. What will the hospital do for her!? Can I help her!? Will she be ok!? You need to learn to use a glugagon kit for very low sugars and she needs to check her sugars much more than she is doing now!.
You can diet with diabetes but you need to change your insulin dose to match the food you will be eating!.
Help her to learn to count her carbohydrates!.
That is the gold standard in diabetes care now!.
Is she seeing an endocrinologist !?If not, make sure she gets to one soon!.
Diabetes is way too diverse for a GP to handle!.
