How hard should I push myself when walking?!

Question: How hard should I push myself when walking!?
I am trying to loose weight!.!.!.!.!.!.!. 50 lbs, and I have high cholesterol and high blood pressure that I seem to be able to control with meds!. I'm 48!.

How hard should I push myself when walking!? Can I push myself too hard, or is a slow progression really better!? My husband says I'm not going to get anywhere unless I push myself harder!.

I'm afraid to though because my ECG from my yearly physical came back saying it couldn't rule out that I haven't already had a heart attack!. Doc says it could be wrong!.

Also in the last 6 months or so when I walk an incline, say from the beach back to my car 200m away, I get winded and feel not strong and take breaks and walk slowly!.

I was doing 10 minutes of walking every other day on the track, and am now walking 3/4 mile in about 15 minutes!.

I'm asking because when I watch those 'loosing wieght shows' it seems as though the people are really being push to their limits!.

Any comments or suggestions!? ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Good for you for taking positive action!

I suggest you get a heart rate monitor to wear when walking!. That way you can be sure to stay in the appropriate "zone" for your age and condition!. You should talk to your doctor about what the right zone is for you!.

Another good indication is the "talk test"!. You should be able to carry on a conversation when walking!. If you find you are too winded to talk, you are working out too hard!. On the other hand, if you can talk without any pause for breath, you should probably push yourself a bit harder!.

The key is to get out walking regularly (3 to 5 times a week), and then increase what you are doing a little bit each week!.

I lost 40lbs by just walking!. You don't have to push yourself like the people on TV!. Just eat right and walk!. Your endurance will build and you will be able to walk faster!. I had a baby and then lost 50lbs an extra 10lbs and I did it again by just watching what I eat (not counting calories just making smart choices) and walking!. Now when I walk I hold 3lbs weights in each hand!. It's what works for me!. I'm not a big fan of pushing myself!. Oh and I went from 185lbs to 130-135lbs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
