Hello,

You're right, rabies shots did used to be really painful!. But there has been a new type of rabies vaccine for some years now, which is just like an ordinary immunisation!. I used to be in the (British) Army, and they vaccinated me against just about every illness known to man, - - I've had modern rabies shots, and believe me, they're no big deal!.

The thing is that you should have a course of several injections, spaced out at intervals, - - I'm afraid just one shot, won't do the job!. These injections work by building up your body's own resistance to the rabies virus, during the rabies 'incubation period,' (the length of time before it shows itself)!.

You should have cleaned out this dog scratch really thoroughly with soap and water, and some doctors recommend putting a spot of iodine drops onto dog bites!. If you haven't thoroughly cleaned it, please do so now!

You should ask your doc whether you need a Tetanus ('lockjaw') shot as well, I think!.

Hope this is of some help!.

If that dog did have rabies and you don't go through with the shots you will die!. The shots have been changed from what they were like years ago!. My friend went through the series and stated it was no worse then any other shot!. Take a deep breath and it will not be as bad as you have heard!Www@Answer-Health@Com
