Ladies- if you found out you had the breast cancer gene...?!

Question: Ladies- if you found out you had the breast cancer gene!.!.!.!?
would you get a mascectomy (removal of your breasts) or wait around for something to develop!. I have not been tested yet, but both my mom and aunt tested positive, which gives me a 50-50 chance!. If i have it there is then an 85% chance i will get breast cancer!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Thats a hard one!. I would not!. Most insurance will not pay for this as it is an elective surgery, and if they do pay, they likely will not pay for reconstruction!. You also should be aware that you can still get breast cancer, even after removal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would wait to see if anything transpires and I have had breast cancer!. It runs my family too and I have been tested but do not carry the mutation!.

Even if you have a mastectomy there is still a chance that all breast tissue wasn't removed and you can still get it!. Also, there is a correlation between certain breast cancers, ovarian cancer and colon cancer!. Are you going to have a hysterectomy and your colon removed too to prevent those cancers!?

Cancer isn't fun but I'd rather keep as much of my natural body as possible than replace it with silocone or saline until and if it is absolutely necessary!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Having the BRCA gene does correlate with a higher likelihood of developing breast cancer, but it's not a 100% diagnosis!. I'm not sure I'd want to know in the first place, but if I found out I had it I wouldn't do any sort of drastic surgery!. I think it would just give me that much more reason to live a healthy lifestyle, eat healthily, exercise, etc!., and be very proactive with regular self-exams and screenings!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Although breast cancer is horrible for anyone, it isn't the death sentence it once was!. I probably wouldn't get a mastectomy as a preventive measure, but I would be darn sure I had a great doctor who was well aware of my history, did self-checks religiously and had my regular mamogram without fail!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Absolutely not!. We have come a long, long way in treatment for cancer!. I'm too lazy to go look it up, but I believe it's something like 85% of women beat breast cancer!. It is your choice, and your's alone and if that makes you feel safer, please do what you feel in heart is right!. However, if I were in that position, I wouldn't have a mascectomy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

50-50 is not enough for me to warrant a mastectomy!. I'd do my self tests every month and my mammogram every year!.

My mom had breast CA at 39 and died at 54 and so I started mamograms at 25 years old!. I m 47 now :) I've been fine so far!.

Good Luck!. Doesn't mean you'll get it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Since I have breast cancer and it is a stage four, I probably would with the knowledge I have now!. However, before all of this I probably would not have because I would have assumed I was the one who wouldn't get it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Before being diagnosed with BC last year I might have said I'd wait it out, but I feel differently now!.

Although I will say that when I went for genetic counseling, I was told that only about 10% of cancers are genetic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would get a masectomy!. I would rather be safe than sorry!. Good luck to you and best of luck with your health!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
