What does it mean when you scratch holes in your skin?!
Question: What does it mean when you scratch holes in your skin!?
My sister is very sensitive to itching and she cant stand mosquito bites!. But, she goes to the extreme and scratches big holes in her skin!. Big holes that bleed alot and make scars!.
During the summer, she scratches big sores all over her body!. Right now she has about 50 bandages covering her!. Last summer she caught impetigo on her skin from all the sores!.
I already told her to keep her nails short and to wear bug spray and to stay in the house!. She does not do what I suggest, she keeps the same problem every year!.
Why does she continue to scratch these big sores all over her body!. Is this self mutilation!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

it's not self mutilation!!! She doesn't want to stay in the house all summer, she wants to live her life!. She can't stay in a bubble!.
The scratching is most likely unconscious most of the time!. I've babysat plenty of kids that do the same thing!. Most people have better self control!. It's possible that she is allergic to misquito bites, so they make her itch more!.
Relax!. She sounds like she's old enough to know what she wants to do and does it!. If it doesn't bother her, then all you can do is suggest to put bandage over the new bites, before she scratches them off!. Try benadryl!. It helps relieve the itching!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
