Answers:
I have Meniere's - diagnosed at age 31 though I think I remember having problems as young as 16!. 23 years ago I had an endolymphatic shunt (called a denver-ahrenberg shunt) installed with the idea that it would relieve pressure in the cochlea through a valve rather then rupturing spots in the vestibular apparatus!. I was under general anesthesia - the pain afterwards was tolerable - it took a month for me to hear again!. It worked to prevent vertigo attacks - sorta!.!.!.and only for a few years!. The only "cure" for the vertigo attacks is cutting the nerve which also of course results in permanent deafness in that ear!. As I have gotten older (I am in my 50's) my attacks have gotten less frequent, last one about 11 years ago!. With each attack though my hearing has deteriorated until I am at ~50% or so in the right ear!. I also don't dare go on amusement park rides - I'll blow chow in about a minute if I do!. I don't watch my diet, but some people claim that low salt will help!. Good Luck and I hope you don't have too bad a time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
