Question: Question about diabetes!!!?
When you are tested for gestational diabetes when you are prgnant, will that also tell you if you have "regular diabetes" also!.!.!.or are they the same!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If you already had existing diabetes, they can diagnose that!. There are cases when gestational diabetes uncovers pre-existing diabetes!.

When I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I went to a clinic run by Diabetes America!. Because your blood cells live for up to 90 days, they were able to do a test that would tell me if I had a pre-existing case of diabetes, or if it was just gestational!. (Thankfully mine came back saying it was only gestational!.)

Can you still get diabetes later in life!? Yes!. No one is immune to it, particularly if they don't eat well, are obese and don't exercise!. But if you didn't have gestational diabetes, then you didn't have diabetes before you were pregnant, either!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They will withdraw the insulin after you have the baby for a while then check your A1c number with blood draw to see if you are back to normal levels or not!. If not, you will have a choice of meds!. If not nursing, you can take some of the pills, if you are nursing you must have the insulin again until you are no longer nursing the baby!.

Watch your food plan and your exercise levels closely for the rest of your life!! This can return and be type 2!. You will be at about a 20% better chance for developing it!.

Have a happy baby and a healthy Mom!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Gestational diabetes is a temporary form (in most cases) of diabetes in which the body does not produce adequate amounts of insulin to deal with sugar during pregnancy!. It may also be called glucose intolerance or carbohydrate intolerance!.

The biggest part of treating gestational diabetes is controlling your blood sugar levels!. There are things you and your doctor can do in order to control your levels and keep them at a safe and normal amount:

*
Close monitoring of you and your baby
*
Self monitoring of blood glucose levels
*
Insulin therapy, if necessary
*
Diet and exercise management
*
It has been reported that women who develop gestational diabetes have a greater chance of developing overt (Type II) diabetes later in life!.

if you have gestational diabetes, what the doctor will do is follow up with you after having the baby to make sure you go back to "normal", if your sugars stay elevated after having the baby, then you're a diabetic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
