Can I have hypertension if I control my diabetes?!


Question: Can I have hypertension if I control my diabetes!?
I'm 29 , female and was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in February and since then taking metformin 500mg twice a day and diet and exercise changes!. My weight dropped from 59kg to 52kg now, and my BMi is 23!.7!. My blood glucose is normal now, below 6!.2 pre breakfast!.
However, after my visit to doc, my blood pressure up at 140/88!. I never had high blood pressure before, but I may have overindulged on some high salt food and snacks some days before the test and am constantly stressed!.
Can I have hypertension even if I control my blood glucose!? Or does the eating and stressing have something to do with it !? How many times do I have to test them!?
Sometimes I get panic attack and afraid to see the doc!. Does that contribute to the pressure!? If so, how can I manage them!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unless it is genetic you should not have high blood pressure!. Your weight loss should have helped!. Metformin does not cause HP!. More than salt, unless you are salt sensitive which is kinda rare, your stress levels are important to HP readings!. Controlling your blood glucose is important for so many things that I can't list them but it will not, in and of itself, control high BP!.
I also have "white coat syndrome" My bp when I first go to the doctor is like yours!. If I can get relaxed it easily goes down to 115/70 and that's in 5 minutes!.
Get yourself a home bp machine!. When you wake up, after the washroom, take your bp, wait 5 minutes and take it again, one more time and the average is considered your real bp!.
Remember that the cuff needs to be on you arm at heart level!. Avoid the wrist and finger kind of machines!. When you next go to the doctor or to a pharmacy to check your bp bring your machine to see if it is off!.
Relaxation is important to a diabetic!. Take up some form of meditation for 10 or 20 minutes a day!. A simple breath observing meditation (you find examples on the web) will do wonders and it is completely free!.

Yes, bringing your blood sugars under control is a wonderful step; but, many things contribute to hypertension!. It can even be effected by genetic factors!. Stress is also a major component!. You should consider getting a blood pressure kit to use at home!. These are often not completely accurate - but they can show a trend!.

Whatever happens - control your blood sugars - it has many effects on many health issues!.

Comparing apples and oranges!. Diabetes and hypertension aren't necessarily linked!. Remember when you binge on salty foods, wherever salt goes water follows so by eating salt you will retain water until the salt is removed from your body!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am a person with high blood pressure taking tabs to keep it under control!.My wife has diabetes and from experience i can tell you that what you are experiencing is unwanted worries about your health!.This in itself avery dangerous phenomena!. Take everything in its stride,relax and do not worry at all!.I know it is difficult but 50% of all sickness is worrying!. I am doing Yoga, watching from a CD and relaxation tecniques which I have devised by myself to suit my work timings and place!. I feel much better and my intake of tabs has decreased!. Diabetics tend to get high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, at least according to what my endocrinologist says and what I've read, (authortative books on diabetes, NOT just the internet)!.

There are some BP medications, such as the older beta blockers that can trigger diabetes or increase the risk enough to tip some people over into diabetes!.

Other BP meds such as ACE inhibitors and ARBS can help prevent the kidney damage associated with diabetes!. Its vital to control high blood pressure as well as high blood sugar!.

Diabetes is a progressive disease!. At some point you will probably need insulin to keep it under control!. For now, the metformin, exercise and dietary changes are enough for blood sugar control, but you must add BP meds as well, and try to relax!.

I recommend buying a good home meter for testing your blood pressure and checking it once every 1 to 2 weeks!. Don't test more often, it will only make you stress out more!.

Ask for some mild medication for your panic attacks!. Learn to destress through yoga or deep breathing exercises!.

Cut back on your "to do " list!. Declutter and simplify your life, learn to say "no" and stop taking on too much!. It all helps bring your blood pressure down!. However, you will still need medication for it, to protect your kidneys from damage!.

Reduce sodium!. Drink more plain water and have less coffee, tea, colas, and chocolate!. They all contain caffeine which adds to your stress!.

I doubt that indulging in salty foods a few days before the test would have any effect!. The same day or day before maybe, but not longer than that!.
