Question: Help! I've Got My Diptheria, Polio and Tetanus injection!!?
I've just turned 15, and I have recieved the letter through my post telling me to go to the doctors to have my polio, tetanus and diptheria injection!. But I am completely terrified of needles! Last time i had a blood test (last year) I fainted, and it was horrible!. Ever since then, I can't even bear the sight of a needle!. I am also really underweight, at nearly 6 stone!. This worries me even more, because i've heard that needles hurt more if you have a really skinny arm, which I do!. I'm scared that i'm going to faint again, and overheat!. I would like to know how big is the needle!? And how long do they keep it stuck in you for!?

These are really important vaccinations so it's important you overcome your fears and get it done!. Often when you're scared of something you build it up to be much worse than it actually is!.
Polio typically is in the form of a sugar cube which you eat so that's one down!.
The diptheria and tetanus come together in one injection!. The needle is about 1cm long and very tiny- much much smaller than the needle used to take blood!. It wont hurt very much, just a small prick and it's over in about 5 seconds!.
When you go in, just tell the nurse you fainted last time you had an injection and you're feeling a bit nervous!. She can offer you a seat, open the window if you feel hot and give you more time to relax before the injection!. The best way to get through it if your mind is racing with worry is to distract yourself!. Try to think of as many names of chocolate bars, celebrities etc as you can and look at something on the wall or out the window rather than the needle!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

think of it dear friend do you want to jeprodize your health and get deadly diseases that will kill you or just get one needle shot for this disease and go home safely!.!.!. sometimes needles can be scary but just try not to think about it & when you go to have a shot just tell the nurse to tell you when she wlii give you the shot and just turn you head and close your eyes and you will find that she will be done!.!.!.!.

Its only one needle, its not very big and its in your arm for about 1 second!. It doesn't hurt very much!.
You should try some relaxation techniques like meditating in the waiting room to help you relax, the more you get worked up the worst it will be!. Also maybe you should call the doctors where your getting it done and let them know your fear and ask them if you can be seen on arrival that way you won't have to sit in the waiting room getting more and more anxious!. One of my friends is the same with needles so i come with her and we sit at a cafe down the road from the doctors and they call her when they're ready, its worked the last couple of times to help her relax!.
