Question: Inhaled water and scared of lung damage!.!?
I was swimming, took a breathe too early and I inhaled a large amount of water!. I'm okay now but is it possible it caused any lung damage!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Nope!. I bet you came up coughing and sputtering after it happened, too!. There is a wonderful protection mechanism built into your body that prevents water actually entering the lungs themselves- and that triggers the cough/sputter when you do finally surface for air!. Drownding victims don't have water in their lungs, that's a myth!. You actually die of suffocation!. Water enters the stomach after death, when you relax- but it doesn't get into the lungs!. Trust me, I've seen it a few times too many!. You haven't got any lung damage at all, because the water never made it that far!. Thank heavens for anatomical designs that work!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
