Why does my albuterol inhaler make me shakey, twitchy and excitable?!

Question: Why does my albuterol inhaler make me shakey, twitchy and excitable!?
I've been using inhalers and breathing treatments since I was a kid, and they've always made me (for lack of a better term) tweaky!.
Why is this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Jitteriness and nervousness or tweaky as you say are very common side effects of albuterol and levalbuterol!. Don't be alarmed by it, it is a side effect but not an adverse reaction!. The medicine has a slight effect on beta receptors in the heart as well as the ones in the lungs!. Keep taking your asthma medication as your doctor has prescribed!.

Xopenex (levalbuterol) as the other answerer says is supposed to have less cardiac side effets than albuterol but that has yet to be proven!. There is no clinical evidence to show that Xopenex works any better than albuterol!. In my experience it has the exact same side effects with no less frequency and it cost about 8 times as much as albuterol!.

If you are taking your inhaler more than twice a week and you are not on any controler medicines your asthma may not be controled!. If I were you I would talk to your doctor about a controler medicine like Advair or Symbicort!. They only have to be taken twice a day and they reduce the chance of having a severe attack!.

Good luck, hope you have a great day!Www@Answer-Health@Com

talk to your Dr about changing to another inhaler like xophenex !. The nebulizer treatments using the new medications !.Brovana or Proformist!. these are long acting Bronchodilators so you would still use a rescue short acting like xophenex!. the long acting would be used 2xd with the short acting 1xday PRN as the rescue!. the shaky and twitchy are very common side effects!. Please talk to your Dr about changing to these meds and treatment plan,Www@Answer-Health@Com
