Question: What do you think is wrong with my ear!.!.!.Cholesteatuma!?
I just had my first ear infection and I went to the doctor to get it fixed!. After I was on antibiotics and drops my infection was gone!. I have no pain right now and I can hear almost perfectly out of my ear but the doctor said I have one of three things

1!. A deformed ear drum due to the infection
2!. Scar tissue
3!. Cholesteatuma

My question is!.!.!.what are the symptoms of each of the three and how do they progress!?

Also, if it is the third, what is the surgery or other treatments like!?

Thank youWww@Answer-Health@Com

I had the same thing, number 3!. I had the surgery, repaired my eardrum, placed a drainage tube behind my ear!. It was a relief!. Please don't be affraid, I was up and about only three hours after the surgery!.As oooblind said, it can reoccur, mine did it again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had never heard of the 3rd one!.!.!. so I looked it up on wikipedia!.!.!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Cholesteato!.!.!.

if you do have that 3rd one-- you need to go get it taken care of ASAP!! If you leave it untreated- it eats away at the 3 small bones that are inside your ear (Incus, Stapes and Malleus -- most commonly known as the ossicles) if you leave it untreated it can result in nerve deterioration, deafness, imbalance and vertigo (NO FUN)
Symptoms: Common symptoms of cholesteatoma may include: Hearing loss, discharge from the ear (usually brown/yellow) with a strong odor, bleeding from the ear, dizziness, vertigo, balance disruption, ear ache, headaches or tinnitus!. There can also be facial nerve weakness!.

Prognosis: Even after careful microscopic surgical removal, 10% to 20% of cholesteatomas may recur, which then require follow-up checks and/or treatment

Your best bet is to go to an otolaryngologist (ear nose throat doctor) let them take a look- they'll be able to figure out what exactly is wrong with you and what exactly to do to handle the situation best!.

Good luck, I hope everything works out for you!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
