People who have DS can lead very full productive lives!. I am an independent living support person for people with downs syndrome!. A lot would depend on how afflicted they are, or what other problems they may have!. Even more would depend on how they were raised!. I have seen people with downs syndrome who cannot do anything for themselves, as their parents thought that they could not learn and could not do even the most basic of daily living tasks!. I have clients that hold full time jobs ranging from working in a recycling plant, to working in restaurants and grocery stores!. I even have one client who works in an office as a receptionist!.
My job is very rewarding!. I pretty much just have to be there to be sure that no one takes advantage of them and to help with anything they can't do on their own!. Mostly cooking and cleaning and taking care of stuff like arranging doctors appointments!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Health wise, they often have weight problems and some have heart defects!. Other than that, lower IQ which effects their communication and learning abilities!. Many can work, doing simple things like bagging groceries, but live dependant on someone the rest of their lives!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
