Answers:
AST is normally found in red blood cells, liver, heart, muscles, pancreas, and kidneys!.

ALT is MOSTLY found in the liver although small amounts are in the kidneys, heart, muscles, and pancreas!. It is more specific to the liver than AST!.

Your AST is the one that is significantly elevated!. It might be something other than your liver that is damaged!. But your ALT is on the upper end of the range!. (Range is 0-41 in our hospital lab!.) That leads me to believe it is your liver!.

Your AST/ALT ratio is 2!.42!. That is suggestive of alcohol liver disease!. 70% of patients with alcoholic liver disease have a ratio greater than 2!. So I would say STOP DRINKING!.

You are probably going to have some addtional testing done!. The doctor needs to rule out other damage, as well as hepatitis, and other liver diseases!.

Best of luck to you!. Take care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your AST may be high because of your drinking!. Liver enzymes (AST & ALT) are actually dead liver cells in your blood!. Liver cells die when they are inflammed (like from a virus: hep c) or when they are damaged (like from alcohol)!. It is normal to have some liver enzymes in your blood; that would be the normal range, up to 35 or 40!. When it is elevated that high, that means your liver is getting damaged!. Lay off the alcohol for awhile, and then imbibe moderately!. Best wishes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ALT: 5-35 IU/L (values for the elderly may be slightly higher, and values also may be higher in men and in African-Americans)

AST: 0-35 IU/L

your AST is very high, avoid drinking alcohol and eating fatty foods for awhile!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you need to STOP DRINKING this may be a fatty liver disease, have doc do all these test again to be sure!.
