ok, there is a 99!.9% chance it is not melanoma!. Most of the time, if you have had a mole since you were very young(usually called a congenital nevus) then it is fine!. It is normal for a mole to change gradually as you grow- some color change is also normal!. BUT you should still go to the dermatologist, as they may still want to remove it!. If they do remove it, they will probably be checking for what they call a dysplastic nevus!. This just means the mole may have some abnormal or atypical cells- either mild, moderate, or severe!. Even if it was atypical, it's usually nothing to worry about, there is just a chance that eventually it could turn into a skin cancer over time!.!.!.you would want to keep an eye on any moles you have off and on!. This sounds stupid, but sometimes we have people take pictures of their moles to keep track :) I would say no, it doesn't hurt to have one removed, because they will numb the area!. As far as removal goes, it just depends!. There are moles that are more on the surface & can be "shaved"- then there are moles that are deeper & would need to be cut out & stitched!. Sometimes the Dr!. has to look at it first to evaluate!. It's not a huge deal, I promise!. You are really young and it is very unlikely to have anything serious, so don't worry in the meantime!. Just be smart about your sun exposure, because the amount you get now will affect you when you are older!.

By the way!.!.!.true moles can't be frozen (using liquid nitrogen)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its probably nothing to worry about, but see your GP just in case! Removal can be done lots of ways; Small ones can be removed by excision (cutting it away), electrodesiccation and curettage (burning the tissue with an electric needle), and cryosurgery (freezing the area with liquid nitrogen)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Make sure that you do go, but in the mean time, don't worry too much about it!. If it looks suspicious your doctor will probably remove it and check it for cancer!. I know a dermatologist near me that will just remove anything anyone asks about whether he's concerned about it or not!. If it's only changed that much in the past few years, they'll take it off and that will be the end of it!. I've never had one removed, but everyone in my family has!. From what I can tell, he numbs the area a little bit, digs it out, and puts a band aid on it!. They usually have a scab for a couple of weeks, and then it's over!. The most important thing to do is get it checked so it doesn't change into anything you do need to worry about!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
