I can tell you that in 20 years as a medical oncologist treating breast cancer, I never saw a patient under 20 years of age with this malignancy!. That does not mean it could not happen, but the chances are small!. Precise numbers will not be possible for your risk as statistics vary with each study performed!.

It never hurts to be aware (as you already are) and to get into the practice of checking your own breasts regularly!. You will get to know your own body better than your doctor!. It will be the changes or persistence of lumps that may be an early warning or a sign that further investigation is needed!.

Most women (unless there is a strong history of early breast cancer in the family) should begin checking closely and regularly in the latter 30's and early 40's - - though most breast cancers are found in women over 50!. The lumps may be superficial (on the surface) or deeper in the breast tissue!.
I've seen primary breast cancers in all areas of the breast!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes it is possible to get breast cancer at any age, but it is very rare!. Breast cancer is more common in women over 50!.

Some lumps are so small you can't feel them but they can be found with mammogram or other diagnostic techniques!. Other lumps can be felt on self exam and sometimes they can cause discomfort (My breast cancer tumor hurt)

Every woman, once she starts menstruating should get in the habit of doing a monthly self exam!. The best time is right after your period as the brests are not as tender!. If you are prone to cysts they usually shrink after a period also

I am a 4 year breast cancer survivor and one of my sisters and an aunt and sister in law have also had it so I am always bugging my sisters and nieces to make sure they are doing monthly exams!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

80% of those diagnosed with cancer are over 50; women in their 20s and 30s who have breast cancer are considered young to have it, and account for only a very small percentage of those diagnosed!.

It is extremely rare in the under 20s; the chances are close to zero

Most breast lumps aren't cancerous (even in the over 50s)Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's good to know your breast!. I thought breast cancer was for old women!. I never dreamed I could have breast cancer at 35!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
