So I just bought some tomatos at my local farmers market now there's this sa!

Question: So I just bought some tomatos at my local farmers market now there's this salmonella outbreak!?
I ate one yesterday and I have another left, I feel fine today and I know that if I cook the other one I will be safe from poisoning but I really don't want to cook it!. Will I notice any cramping from just one!? I know it takes 12-72 hours for symptoms to appear, I just hate to cook it, it's the first ripened tomato I've been able to get this year and I LOVE tomatos!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If the tomato you ate yesterday had contained the salmonella you could expect to know that within 12-72 hours, although by now I would think you would not be feeling too well!. You are probably safe enough, being as the tomato came from a farmer's market!. That is, providing it was a real farmer's market- and you bought your tomato from the farmer who actually grew it!. So far all the tomatos involved in the outbreak seem to have been provided to restaurants and stores, which don't usually use farmer's markets for their suppliers!. Those tomatos come from large scale commercial farms, where the chance of them being contaminated is a lot greater!. It would also depend on where exactly in the country you live!. Most of the cases have been on the west coast, and Texas- where most of the commercial crops are grown!. If it were me, and I could be sure of where and who grew my tomato, I'd probably give it a dip in a bleach/water mix, let it dry, and then eat it!. I wouldn't be inclined to feed it to small children or an elderly person if I couldn't be pretty sure it was safe- but if you are an adult in otherwise good health, I'd say it was worth it!. On the other hand, if you live in the danger zone and can't be fairly sure, then it's better to cook it!. It's early in the season yet, and there will be other tomatos!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

just clean them thoroughly!.
think about it!.!.!.how many people have handled any fresh produce from the time they're harvested to the time they've been arranged in the grocer's!? at least 4-5, right!? maybe more, since other people tend to pick them up to examine them, and most people don't have clean hands when they're in the market!.
i put my veggies in a deep bowl, fill it to the brim with water and add about 3-4 drops of dishwashing liquid!. i rub thoroughly, then dump the water, replace it with fresh water!. rinse, repeat!. some people call it a bit obssessive and that's okay!. i haven't had food poisoning at all from eating fresh produce when i prepare them at home!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't believe all the $hit that you see on TV!.

Ha! Some tomatoes from a factory farm halfway across the country from you have been contaminated by bacteria, and you suddenly think that all tomatoes everywhere are poison - even if they come from an entirely different place!.

What happened to common sense!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
