It seems that you are confused, please let me help you!.

Avian flu (H5N1) spreads very easily among birds (domestic and wild)!. Birds are the natural reservior and permissive hosts for this virus, though it kills some birds it is not as lethal for birds as it is for humans!.

I do not know how many birds H5N1 kills!. I do know that the case fatality index ( # of people who die divided by the # infected) for human avian flu infections can be up 80-90%!. People get this infection by bird to human contact!.

Avian flu DOES NOT spread easily among humans!. Human to human spread of H5N1 would involve prolonged, close contact with someone with this type of flu!. Human to human spread has happened only twice in the literature since this virus first came to light in ~1999!. Yes, it has been around for 9 years!. The natural concern is that H5N1 could acquire the capability to spread readily in the human population!.

A combination of high virulence (factors intrinsic to the virus), and a lack of antibody protection (human host factors) in humans make this bug very lethal for people!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This fact sheet provides general information about avian influenza (bird flu) and information about one type of bird flu, called avian influenza A (H5N1), that has caused infections in birds and in humans!.
