Answers:
There are both psychological as well as physical ways of tackling anxiety!. You'll probably get lots of suggestions regarding the "mind" side of the equation, so i'll fill you in on a few of the "matter" matters:

1) Proper hydration: i know that whenever i haven't had enough to drink (water, non-caffienated teas, juice!.!.!.!.!.), i get anxious and nervous!. I drink a couple of glasses of water and feel much better in short order!! The best way to tell if you are completely "tanked up", is the color of your urine: it should be quite pale!. If it is distinctly yellow, you are partly dehydrated and will be more anxious than when you are properly hydrated!.

2) Exercise!. Anxiety and depression (and they go hand in hand) often lessen considerably when you get some vigorous, intense exercise - not so much that you hurt yourself of course, but as vigorous as your level of fitness permits: running, cycling, swimming, "power walking", playing an active sport such as hockey, soccer, tennis, squash, basketball!.!.!.!.!. or even hiking in the woods (not strolling - actual hiking!!)!. This doesn't mean you shouldn't also engage in less intense forms of physical activity such as just plain old walking in wild areas or playing with children (ok, this can be pretty intense also!!), but the high-intensity activity can really help fight anxiety!.

3) Good, sound sleep: if you are sleep-deprived you are far more likely to be anxious than if you are getting the sleep you need!. I give a little summary of what i know about getting a good night's sleep, here:

4) Diet: eating properly can go a LONG way towards warding off anxiety: a) As little added sugar as possible - sodas, candy, donuts, processed foods in general: avoid!. Many fruits are naturally sweet, however the sugars in them are not harmful!. b) No caffiene or other stimulants - well, a bit of green tea won't harm you, but even there keep it to a reasonable level!. c) lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains!.!.!.!. eating for health instead of just to satisfy appetites and cravings is a great way to fight things like anxiety!!

5) Breathing: do some deep breathing sometimes - it can work wonders believe me!! Breath-holding is something i find can calm one down as well, for some reason!. It is impossible to hold your breath too long, so don't worry about this possibility!. (just don't do it underwater: this CAN be dangerous!)

6) Cold showers, or swimming in cold water: it may seem paradoxical that something as stimulating as this could help fight anxiety, but the physical challenge to your body, envigorates it and helps reduce anxiety considerably!! To avoid getting chilled afterwards, dry off REALLY well and put on dry clothing!.

I hope some of these things will be of help to you!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I too well know about anxiety as I've had it for 20 yrs!. There is one thing you can try to do when you feel it coming on which does help, take as deep a breath as you can!. Slowly let it out to the count of 10!. Do this a few times & see if that w/help relax you!. If you've only had one attack, chances are this will be a big help to you!. Unfortunately I have to take medication for mine as I'm past that point!. Also, try to stay away from things w/caffiene, sugars & things that will "up" your energy level!. Try the breathing exercize tho, & even do it when you aren't feeling anxious!. Get use to the feeling of being able to relax yourself!. Hopefully just because you had it one time doesn't mean you'll have it all the time!. Just slow yourself down & easy does it!.!.!.good luck to you!.!.!.:)Www@Answer-Health@Com
